Good morning all!

Looking for some thoughts on your daily quiet time. Do you follow a book/study? Do you journal?

I've never been super consistent, and looking just for some ideas on how to become more consistent with it. Figured I would ask Texags as Texags knows everything.

Also interested if anyone has any books they have worked through with their kids. My kids are 9 and 6, and I would love to get the 9 year old started on solid ground as she continues to grow (as well as the 6, but shes probably not really ready yet).

I like the Anglican Book of Common Prayer online. Go to the Daily Office and there are all kinds of daily prayers and readings.
Also like the Wake Up call devotional by JD Walt who is at Asbury Seminary.

Anglican and second the prayer book recommendation. It takes you through the entire Bible in a year if you do it each day with NT more than once and the psalms several times.

It does require you to read differently though; we often look for connection between the passages instead of picking one specific one to focus on for a day and finding commentaries or doing word studies.

Edit: it focuses on unity in the church - we all read the same passages on the same day around the same time. Other stuff can be added but that's a big part of it.

I like 30-45 mins of quiet and mediation early in the mornings before the clan wakes
What you say, Paper Champion? I'm gonna beat you like a dog, a dog, you hear me!

I do that and have basically a closet with a small couch I retire to for about an hour at the office everyday at lunch.

Read the noontime Anglican book of prayer devotional and then nap and pray.

I have a book of daily scripture readings and prayer, and then I meditate on these as well as all of the blessings God has given me. I find this last part very helpful as the stresses of life can be overwhelming, so to focus on Christs love and how I've been blessed keeps me from spiraling. Gives me strength.

Pick a Bible reading plan and stick to it. If you fall behind, don't panic. Just pick up where you left off or skip ahead. I like the historical reading plan on blue letter Bible. It arranged the OT into the Hebrew order. 4ish chapters a day.

If you're new to the Bible, pick narrative like a Gospel and read stories. If you've some experience, try reading big chunks at a time. Sometimes the chapter markers arent helpful. Just read large chunks at a time and don't worry if you miss a day. Try reading genesis 1-11 in one sitting. It helps you pick up on the storyline through repeated words and themes.

Or set a timer and read for 30 minutes. Then pray for 30 minutes. You'll be amazed at how fast 30 minutes goes when you pray for your family and you pray about what you just read.

You could do the psalms. You match the psalm number to the day of the month and then every 30th one. So on the 13th you do psalm 13, 43, 73, 103, 133. And then the chapter of proverbs that matches the day. Prov 13 on the 13th.

Whatever you do, do it. It's a discipline. A duty. And as you develop consistency, it will become a delight.
