I'd never heard of this, but it's awesome. They have a giant temple and feed anyone that shows up every single day of the year. It's the largest free kitchen in the world. Apparently one of the most important parts of the Sikh religion is Seva, which translates as selfless service or even love. People all throughout the city will donate time and resources to keep the kitchen open for everyone.

Just to throw my own spin on this, I challenge anyone to look at this and not see the Holy Spirit at work. At least in this aspect, these people are following the teachings of Jesus as closely as if he was still there instructing them. We Christians should look at this and feel ashamed by the comparison.

I think we had this in the past. Limited due to the availability of jobs in the US. Churches and the wealthy had soup kitchens back during the depression.

I think this would help with a lot of our society issues.

A person on welfare/no job can stay in their apartment and receive Federal govt checks and never socialize with their local community. They also do not value their local community and will not take care of it if they do not socialize in it. They are also not grateful to the people that provide that money to them. Churches are one of the few places that people of all means come together and socialize.

If people had to go to their local Church to eat, they will interact with the local community. Neighbors will take care of neighbors, and everyone would want to support each other. They would meet the actual people paying for their meals and be more grateful. They would get to know these people and maybe offer jobs to them. So many benefits come from this interaction and from going to Church..

Too bad there's no work requirement. They're just encouraging the moochers.
