Ours aren't open during service time for any non-Ismailis - even other Muslims. I believe in cities with very small congregations where they hold services at someone's house or at a rented space, you have to contact the local board and let them know you're moving or coming to visit. I completely get it for synagogues. I think Ismaili mosques tend to fly under the radar compared to other Muslim groups because Ismailis tend to dress according to local culture and veils are not compulsory on Ismaili women.Sapper Redux said:
I'm honestly surprised it's only sometimes. Almost every synagogue has some form of constant security in the US, and a lot of places require visitors to request the ability to worship there before showing up.
Our church utilizes a team of church members, but it is lead by 2 police officers that attend our church. To be on the team, you have to attend training sessions.UTExan said:

Interesting that several years ago, you would read accounts of church security folks neutralizing would be mass shooters. Maybe serving Costco coffee after church has repelled the shooters.
This is where we ask the ones that we know are carrying to attend training sessions. While training is mostly shooting and firearm handling type stuff - with some general procedure things thrown in - it at least gives us an idea who is carrying and who isnt, and what their capabilities are. I strongly encourage churches - especially small churches - to at least do this with men you trust. You can also contact your local sheriff or police to help do this if you dont have a qualified member. I know our local sheriff - who is a church member - has been a big help to us and other congregations.Win At Life said:

For larger congregations, there are consultants out there who specialize in this stuff that are incredible resources to other congregations. The head of security at Prestonwood in Plano is one that I know of.
On a side note - we also have confronted anyone open carrying and asked they not do that on campus. Most agree but one dude got pissy about it and left. Oh well.
