Movie was released last Friday. I follow the author of the book the movie is based on on Twitter, or I wouldn't have even known about it. Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it, the audience loves it, so it must be good!

Here is an interview with the writers and producers of the screenplay: ncregister.com/interview/nefarious-filmmakers-take-the-mask-off-evil-in-new-exorcism-film

It's an uncomfortable but fascinating subject, and I can't wait to see it tomorrow. Will report back!

Thanks. Sounds great.

Satan is alive and well. His biggest trick is to lead people to believe he does not exist.

I've got the feeling that if people want to watch a recently released film about exorcists most people are going to pick the one with Russell Crowe over this one.

My dad saw it last week and highly recommended it. Said it isn't a crazy typical exorcist type movie but a thought-provoking one in an uncomfortable way.

There have been quite a few stories about strange happenings associated with the film, from the production problems mentioned in the linked interview, to the producer being hit with MRSA just as the film was releasing, to things happening in the individual showings across the country. Power outages, theater chair malfunctions, and other otherwise unexplainable events.

Satan is real, he doesn't want this movie to be widely seen and embraced, and everyone, Christian or not, needs to see it.

There are currently 10 reviews with only one from a major film critic. I'd say it's more that critics don't care.

Agree. I watch movies to be uplifted, not uncomfortable (Schindlers List may be the exception). And I drew the line at watching movies involving satan, demons, or any harm to children a long time ago. As I tell my kids, you choose what to fill your mind with, and that can affect you in so many ways. Like the old IT adage GIGO...Garbage In Garbage Out.

Funny enough I saw a Reddit review of this pop up today... They weren't impressed.

Apparently, this was marketed as a horror movie? And not the explicitly Christian one it is?

It was a limited release, in about 35% of the number of theaters as other films in the box office top ten that released last weekend. Perhaps that's why the critics are not weighing in as widely. Nefarious still managed to be in the top 10 in receipts.

Anyway, it was a good movie, and Sean Patrick Flanery did a fantastic job in the role of Edward/Nefarious.

I don't know how many nonbelievers the movie will influence positively towards Christianity, but for me it was a great reminder of Ephesians 6; "put on the full armor of God, so that you can your stand against the devil's schemes." The message is not subtle in illustrating how the devil inserts himself into our daily lives in seemingly innocent ways and seeks to gain a foothold.

I thought his biggest trick is convincing people that republicans are the party of small government

Saw it today. Given that I believe the spiritual warfare we all live day to day is very real, I liked the movie. Sean Patrick Flannery is very good.

Most of the reviews from the typical Hollywood types will be negative because the film specifically shines a light on the reality of how most of the world is actively, even if sometimes ignorantly, cooperating with evil.

If you have a Christian world view you will probably like it. If not, you will waive it off.

I'm excited to see it. Sean Patrick Flannery is a highly underrated actor. Most mainstream audiences will recognize him from Powder or Boondock Saints.

I saw an interview with the author and the book was lightly inspired by The Screwtape Letters.

Just saw it. Reminded me of the Screwtape letters, and how demons mess with your mind...Very well acted....

And lots of "nefarious" stuff happened on the set while filming...

I highly recommend it.

The acting is good and the plot is the same vein as "The Screwtape Letters".

We thought the movie was excellent. Here is a good interview with one of the stars of the show. They discuss more than the movie but Nefarious comes up in the latter half.

Interview with Sean Patrick Flanery.

Being the believer I think you are, you should make time to see this….and plan to show your kids pending their age and understanding.
