I believe the Shroud is authentic. As a Catholic, there is an element of "I want it to be true."

However, a very strong case could be made for its authenticity by the scientific evidence alone.

In this podcast, Fr. Robert Spitzer details why. He is a priest and a scientist.

Start at the 34 minute mark.

I'm sure Jesus is thrilled this much attention has been devoted to a piece of cloth.

Listen to the physical evidence overview.

It is extremely compelling. And yes, I do think God wants us to be astounded by it.

I don't think it is authentic but I do wonder how it was created as nobody has a method I find convincing.

It is authentic in that it is a shroud. Not for who you think however.

Farsight Institute collected data confirming this.

Lots of data points converge on a relatively narrow window in the Middle Ages which is incidentally where it is first mentioned.

Nope. It was repaired in the Middle Ages after a fire by nuns.

Please listen and let me know what you think. This cloth - not the repaired sections - is bare minimum 3rd Century, and from the Levant. The scientific evidence for that statement is extremely strong.

The repair hypothesis is debunked as an excuse for failing the radiometric tests.

It's well over a decade since the last analysis. An analysis that was centered on a repaired fragment.

WIth Fr. Spritzer, I hope for a full scientific analysis very soon - and it seems like this will happen.

Ever wonder why God choose not to build a monument to himself? The whole freewill thing :-)

There are eucharistic miracles and the tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe to baffle science much like the shroud. In the end, I find comfort in a song by - wait for it - David Haas!

"Deep within, I will plant my law, not on stone, but in your heart.
Follow me; I will bring you back. You will be my own, and I will be your God."

It references JER 31:33

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

This interview from the owner and content curator of shroud.com is a must listen.

Barrie Schwortz. He's a Jewish professional, and in his opinion -
the Shroud is the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth.....
based on the scientific evidence alone.

The shroud is clearly a projection on a cloth held tight in two planes and not a marking of anything wrapped around anything. The only way that is the burial cloth is if the barial cloth was suspended in front of the body and not wrapped around it.

Data suggests it is indeed a burial cloth.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is serious or joking on this site. This is one of those times for me.

Another excellent podcast featuring a decades-long researcher - one who has put up a "million dollar challenge."

The details are very much on the side of we who believe the Shroud to be real.
