ed the younger. from what i've seen and heard, osteen seems to be a pretty stand up guy. you can critique his theology or the way he preaches, but that doesn't make him a bad person. he makes people happy, and that's fine with me.

I read some of Ed Young's website. While he irks me, I dislike Joel more.

I'll try to watch some of Ed's stuff so I can give a more educated opinion.

My opinion of Joel is not very nice.

btw... there are 2 ed youngs, i think it pertinent to distinguish between them. if we are talking about ed the elder, i don't know much about him. ed the younger on the other hand, keeps a private jet and isn't bashful about using it. he also pays himself a salary of 1.5 million a year.

regarding osteen, i'm not sure how he's a con artist. another thing about osteen i like is, he doesn't take a salary from the church, but lives off his own book earnings. that doesn't sound like con artistry to me.

Um, I think Joel's message is the con so I definitely consider his books to be part of that.

Not counting disagreements with Messianic teachings, I generally find very little from Ed the senior that I disagree with from a theological point. However, his way of speaking grates on me. Not so much what he says, but the way he sais it.

However, I am generally uncomfortable with most of the people I have met who attend his services. Maybe I've just had a bad run, but the ones I have met all seem very phony.

Ed the Younger looks like Skeletor, but is less biblically based.

Ed Sr has the creepiest billboards ever. Big picture of him dressed up as Mr Rogers with Seconds [hearts] Kids. I keep waiting for the pedobear to show up.

Never heard or watched Ed Young.

I have always supported Joel. I was a member of his father's Lakewood.

The only thing that bugs me with Joel is that is gets a bit over emotional. Believe me it is no con. The man's heart will cry when talking about anyone suffering.

Why do people pick on Joel Osteen? Jealousy? Or is there something sinister that I am missing?

He seems to be happy with himself and I haven't heard any scandals. I don't think he is on welfare and probably pays some taxes on his book deals. He probably brings his trash cans in off the curb in a timely manner and never picks boogers while driving.
