Do they testify to the truth of the inherent sinfulness of man or what?! Same with Metallica/many other mainstream bands. I was listening to PR last night (their first/only good album) for no apparent reason other than the nostalgia and this song struck me...

from the chorus of "Blood Brothers"

Corruption and abuse
The salesmen of our blood
For the public's craving
Existence in the dark

It's in our nature to destroy ourselves
It's in our nature to kill ourselves
It's in our nature to kill each other
It's in our nature to kill, kill, kill

Then of course we have "Sad But True" by Metallica which throughout the song describes a bunch of immoral acts that some "character" in the song has the tendancy to do. Then in the end of the song in the OH SNAP! moment, they reveal that this "character" is YOUR OWN SUBCONSCIOUS! Then everyone that listens to it is like "holy crap...they kind of have a point there."

Going back to Papa Roach, the also testify to the idea that money and possessions will never satisfy the human soul.

"Between Angels and Insects"

Chorus:
There's no money
There's no possessions
Only obsession
I don't need that s***
Take my money
Take my posessions
Take my obsession
I don't need that s***

Verse 1:
I just wanna be heard
Loud and clear are my words
Commin from within man, tell em what you heard
It's about a revolution
In your heart and in your mind, you can find the conclusion
Lifestyle and obsession, diamond rings get you nothin’ but a lifelong lesson
And your pocketbook stressin’, you're a slave to the system
Workin jobs that you hate, for that s*** you don't need
It's too bad the world is based on greed, step back and see
Stop thinkin’ bout yourself, start thinkin’ bout

Chorus

Verse 2:
Cuz everything is nothing, and emptiness is in everything
This reality is really just a f***** up dream
With the flesh and the blood that you call your soul, flip it inside out
It's a big black hole
Take your money burn it up like an asteroid
Possessions, they are never gonna fill the void, take it away
And learn the best lesson, the heart, the soul, the life, the passion

Chorus

Money, possession, obsession
You present yourself
Press your clothes
Comb your hair
Clock in
You just can't win, just can't win
And the things you own, own you now!

Take my money
Take my possession
Take my obsession
I don't need that s***
F*** your money
F*** you possessions
F*** your obsessions
I don't need that s***

I wonder what it is that calls out to these completely secular musicians, inspiring them to write such lyrics that testify to these Biblical doctrines (that so often get criticized). Yet we all go to these concerts and belt out these words at the top of our lungs as if they really do mean something and we "relate" to them. Before I knew Christ these songs were practically my anthems. I would cry them out and there was a (temporary) healing power to it all.

And as we all know, Papa Roach and Metallica are just two examples of bands amongst the myriad that convey this SAME message!!! Could it be that these things are TRUE and written within our souls, (whether we are Christian or not) as Romans 1:18-20 tells us?
