quote:
Crew chief: Crew chiefs are in charge of each dorm's crew while at Cut, Stack, and in the case of Walton Hall crew chiefs, Load, serving as both instructors and supervisors. With larger dorms, there will be multiple crew chiefs to ensure that there is adequate supervision of the larger crews.[5]

Yellowpot: Yellowpots are the liaison to higher on-site leadership for crews. Each dorm with an adequate number of volunteers will have a yellowpot designated who serves as spokesman for that dorm, as well as manager to the crew chiefs of his/her dorm.[5]

Greenpot: Greenpots are in charge of administrative and financial aspects. These students, are responsible for things such as checking people in at the beginning of the day, managing finances, and dealing with paperwork, but are rarely involved with the physical labor, unless they volunteer for it.

Brownpot: Brownpots are in charge of machinery at Cut and Stack.[6] They are most often seen operating chainsaws and preparing lights at Stack. There are 5 brownpots, usually three from the Corps of Cadets and two representing the civilian, or non-reg, participants.[1] Unofficially, Brownpots have a reputation for causing mischief for the upper leadership.

Greypot: Phased out of use. Originally, the Greypots were known as "climbers" or "swing monkeys", and would climb Centerpole to secure logs during Stack, and ran axe maintenance stations at Cut. Eventually, they were phased out and combined with the Redpots, but were brought back for a short time as a replacement for the Redpots while the Reds debated passing down their lines.

Redpots: Redpots are the leaders of Bonfire. These nine seniors and nine juniors were in charge of Bonfire as a whole, from the design of the structure to ensuring that all participants were following safety precautions while overseeing both Cut and Stack. There was no official written documentation for Bonfire, and all applicable information was passed orally from one year's redpots to the next. Senior redpots were responsible for training the junior redpots in the proper process and procedures for building the next year's Bonfire. The head redpot, who has ultimate authority over Bonfire, is known as Head Stack.

The Browns topped the stacks and the JRP's (Jr Redpots) did the push ups on cross-beams at certain times.

The JRPs only did the class set of push-ups off the 3rd and 4th stack crossties at the beginning of push, i.e. between the two shifts on the first night of push.

What is the deal with all of thhe different colored groups,

Uli_Kunkel's post explained the leadership colors. One thing to add, though, is that the other participants wear pots with their dorm/outfit colors. For example, I lived in Clements, so my pot is green with orange lettering. (Typically, dorms avoid having the same colors as the leadership, but the Greenpot position wasn't created until after several dorms were already using green pots.)

Crew chiefs wear their dorm colors plus some indication that they're a chief. This may be a stripe, inverted colors, or the use of a hardhat rather than an Army helmet liner.

As it pertains to the current off-campus Bonfire, there aren't any more Grey pots.

The leadership in 2002 did not want to be confused with the '99 leadership, so they wore grey pots. This carried on for a few years until a series of events made it possible for the Sr. leadership to now wear red pots.

The current Jr. red pots wear un-finished green pots with red lettering that spells "redpot".

As far as the axe handles go, they give the leadership who normally don't use regular woods tools (other than in demonstration or special circumstances) something to carry around, point with, and perform various other tasks with. Because of the various pot colors, the axe handle is also a universal indicator to persons new to Bonfire that the person holding the axe handle is in a leadership position and is someone to be listened to.

There were co-chairs back in the 90s.

Co-chairs were responsible for the girl dorms that went out.
Green pots is a new thing, because Mosher's pots were green back in the day. And of course the JRPS had green ones but they were not painted.

Also, can't forget Load pots.... they were great amusement to everyone and usually came from Walton. I guess there aren't any of them any more. There were also unload pots and others that all had some sort of designation.

Thanks, I always wondered what the deal was. How do you get involved with these groups? I lived in FHK when I was in school, and nobody ever approached me to join. I was always curious as to how this all worked.

Recruitment has been rather lacking lately. If you want to join, the necessary information will be posted at studentbonfire.com.
