If you don't know about SB you haven't been looking, or you have but you don't live in Texas anymore.

I think the main reason that hasn't been more advertising is $$$. So if you want the word to get out put up the $. Otherwise, building a great reputation and relying on word of mouth is the best way.

Hopefully more can be done to spread the word in the future. Alums have money and may be willing to spend it given the correct information from those in charge. I can't say they would go about getting phone lists, e-mail addresses or whatever, but starting with the social alumni clubs may be a good start.

Not to compare to the Association of Former Students, but I know they call every year to hit me up for my $50 donation. Heck, a church I went to once back in 1996 (darned sign-in books) still sends me donation cards in the mail.

I would be glad to work with one of the Greens (NOT PINKS) on this.

The more Ags out, the better!

I work for the AFS and I guarantee you calling former students and "hitting them up" for donations would not be good news.

What's with the hatred of the pinks? My sister was one and many of my friends were, too. If I am not mistaken, the Greens have worked with my sister quite a bit.

So seriously, what's the deal?

No Hatred for Pinks whatsoever. Had several buddies who were pinks back then. Cokeman expressed that they would get pretty ticked off if were refereed to as Pinks instead of Green Pots Read the posts...its all there.

Again, I had hoped to come, but not sure this is a trip I can make this year for several reasons.

Still, really important that for next year (and I think we have been saying this every year) a group is formed to be event planners AND to take that part of the event as seriously as cut and stack.

Media relations builds goodwill and reaps free publicity. All possible details of burn should be formalized several months in advance--that allows for permits and advertising.

Establish a system of letting Aggie clubs and mom's clubs know of the event--mailing flyers or through email.

Plan and promote. We need student bonfire to become a dependable traditon that draws that ten thousand pluss every year.

I think someone missed the message:

I totally agree 3rd Generation Ag! Mailing flyers is an excellent idea! Hopefully things can get organized so the alumni can also get involved!

I wasn't real sure that the "powers that be" are all on texags, so I directly e-mailed Student Bonfire. Quick response and very informative!

Thanks to all of you pulling for Bonfire and doing what you can to spread the word!

p.s. - I know it is cheesy, but I posted Bonfire info on my myspace page and heard back from a few friends who were glad to receive the info. I just posted the flyer student bonfire sent me. The more the merrier!

edit - Things are very organized (was not trying to imply that they weren't)...I look forward to the day when we can all do more to help promote Bonfire.

Yeah, I know it's there. I read it all. I originally meant to quote both your post and his (meaning, why would they get pissed and why would you feel the need to shout (NOT PINKS!!) so as to not offend anyone). That's what happens when you are hurrying out the door at the end of the day, I guess.

Still, why would they get pissed about being mistakenly referred to as Pinks? Without the Pinks there would have been no food, no water, less fund raising, disorganized donations, etc. They did a lot more for Bonfire than they ever got credit for, and did not do a lot they got accused of. Hell, they got up hours before everyone else, worked through lunch and went to bed hours after us.

I don't mind someone not wanting to be thought of as Pink, but let's not forget what those redass ladies contributed.

By the way, this is not directed at anyone, just a general question/statement.

I think the problem has become that none of the current students have a working knowledge of what the actual pink pots did, all they know is what they've heard, cookies and nookie.

Speaking of cookies, do they still have the cookie shack out at stack?

That's a shame. The Greens met with my sister once, they could have asked what the Pinks did. Apparently they have chosen not to use her as a resource since. Talk about someone who loves Bonfire . . . they really should get in contact with her. She is a professional fund raiser, great at PR and has more actual knowledge about Bonfire than most of we old folks on this board who claim knowledge (yeah, we all know who we are).

And to put the rumor to rest, the cookie part is true, the nookie part is NOT.

I really liked being in the WBC (Women's Bonfire Committee). It was such a great way to get girls involved. It sounds like (and I could be wrong) that the Green Pots have taken similar roles. I hope this organization has survived.

Kip, most of us do know that those rumors are not true!
