not to be uhmmm...well...me or anything but

"With the legal issues involved, I'm sure the SB leadership has been given legal advice to not release information. A statement should be made within a couple days.
I would sit tight for a couple days."

That was made on 10/9, 2 weeks ago. Any word yet?

That was not made by SB. That was made by me.

One thing you may not realize is that the day you release the location of stack, you have to split your work between leadership and guard duty. People want to see the location, even if nothing is done there yet. This has always been a problem. And, as you say, this is a business, a busines can be held responsible for someone getting hurt out there, even if they're trespassing. CP hasn't (officially) arrived, and hasn't been raised. There's no need to release the location until then.

***Disclaimer to avoid some people's panties from getting in a wad for not being able to know every single detail......CP should be (officially) arriving soon.***

The location and whether or not the paperwork has been taken care of aren't the same issue. Sadly, the people I know that have directly asked the leadership about that have been met with a simple "It's being taken care of."

If this is going to be the model for returning to campus some day, the secrecy HAS to stop.

In order for the secrecy to stop, it seems that the liability would have to end also...

but that's not possible.

How are the two even POSSIBLY connected?

Please show me how to link any sort of liability with the process of having permits turned in.

NoAC and everyone else, rest assured that nothing is being kept secret for the sake of secrecy as in the days of old. Everyone realizes that was a problem and resulted in critical info not being passed down appropriately.

However, in this current situation legal counsel has been obtained and they are essentially donating their time and services to help. So, when they that are providing this service ask that all involved stay quiet on the issue, the last thing anyone wants to do is offend them by blatantly ignoring their advice.

I understand the curiosity and the desire to know everything that is going on, but often the premature release of information is worse than not releasing anything at all. Especially on the internet (here or an "official" site) where it becomes fodder for the rumor mills and potentially snowballs well beyond the actual issue(s).

Cokeman - What POSSIBLE legal issue could there be with saying "We have completed and filed X permits?"

Way to stir up the pot...what a jerk. Sorry about that.

I wasn't thinking that anybody else but you made that post armadillo, you just told everybody to wait. So I was asking you if there was any word on it yet.

There is a difference between "trade secrets" such as where stack is etc...and "public knowledge" such as we're doing this legally, do not fear.

"It's being handled" is not an acceptable response.

If you are truly following the advice of your lawyer, I withdraw any criticism I expressed about the lack of information.

Following sound legal advice is the hallmark of a mature organization. Maturity in this area indicates a grown-up attitude about other aspects of the operation, including the all-important safety considerations.

Understand that, in the end, the lawyer works for you--even if he is donating his services. Any attorney worth his salt understands that business people sometimes have to make decisions that run counter to advice of counsel. However, at this stage of the game, you're quite wise to follow his advice to the letter.

As certain as that is, I highly doubt an attorney would advise you against making it known that the organization has the proper documents that allow it to move forward with operations.

Once again I offer a link to the Student Bonfire homepage. There is a news update on the homepage that makes it public knowledge that "Bonfire will burn within the law". In order for Bonfire to burn legally, all of the paperwork must be taken care of. The news update would be nothing more than speculation if everything to date was not already in order.

that message on there was posted some time back and there is still no word that the documents have been taken care of. That message means nothing whatsoever without something else backing it.

What does it matter? They either:

a. Got the paperwork in and it was approved:
-bonfire will burn normally.

b. Got the paperwork in and it was NOT approved:
-bonfire will burn, albiet people won't be able to stay the entire night and attendance will be limited to the numbers stated in the Mass Gathering act

or

c. All the paperwork wasn't turned in and therefore was NOT approved.
-in which burn b will happen.

As we approach burn night, we'll learn the details as far as a stack site, parking, directions, etc. etc. etc. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on option b as far as what happend. Rest assured, they'll burn it within the law...as breaking the mass gathering act carries with it 6 months jail time if I'm not mistaken. EDIT: for the organizers...

I know, I was just making sure that everybody knew that if the permits were denied, Bonfire would end roughly around the same time as many High School Juniors curfew.

I don't know how many times we can say it but we KNOW they said it WOULD BE taken care of.

We're attempting to find out if it WAS taken care of and they're being tightlipped about it.

How long do you want to ignore this user?

SQ1...I highly suggest going out to cut, you might be supprised at how many of your questions might be answered if you were active in participating this year. There are many reasons why leadership is staying quiet on these issues, please have patience, they will be answered in due time.

Please excuse the mad smiley face...I hit the wrong button, and I cannot edit it out.

It's ok, mad smileys happen. I understand your point about going out. But really guys, can't that question just be answered? There are lots of people who aren't/can't go out, but would still like to know that the show's gonna go on.

For all you people who don't like to think and hate considering that the plan your abiding by may not work flawlessly...all I'm asking is if a large amount of people will be able to make it out to Bonfire.

Annnnnd...proceed to call me stubborn, a "forum troll" (my favorite btw), "nothing"...anything else. Just a question.
keebsag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would love to answer that question, but I know the leadership has reasons to keep it quiet and me being just a lonely little peon of bonfire I have netiher the right or authority to tell you. This is not a direct shot at you by any means and I hope you don't feel as such. I think what Tootall is trying to say by coming out it is easier to find out because everyone talks about it and such talks are overheard and discused with other people. They don't just tell the people at cut. We just happen to hear it early.
