It is good that you have stepped off, the band is desperatly needed. Try as hard as you can to make sure it is Ags, even better if it is ol' BQs. There will be a lot of murmering if it is high school kids and some if it is BQs. Murmuring is bad PR. Anything you send to a large group, make sure it is approved by leadership, and get it edited (by Kip). Good writing is good editing.

agstudent- I know and its going to backfire if i dont get a base setup now. Unfortunatly this cant be done on a last minute basis, or it will fall through like it did last year. If i can get a small core group together, It will come off.

If you have not done so, you really need one of the computer people to help create a spreadsheet to organize the data.

You need one slot of the person's name, one for the instrument played, another perhaps for phone number, one for mailing address, another for e-mail. Perhaps even one for experience. Certainly one for "instrument needed" since a few people might own their own.

Do you have a band background? If not get a band director to help you with instrumentation requirements. There are ratios you need and fifty piccalo would not add much to the night.

Also an issue of getting the music. That may take a fund raiser since I am sure the arrangements are subject to copyright.


I applaud that you are doing this,but just reminding you of a few things you need to do.

I spent 7 years in band in school . In fact, we were a military band(The only REAL marching.....everything is is prancing around the field)

I intend to talk to my old director about the copyright issues, as im shure he can answer the copyright requirments right off the top of his head.

If i can get a few people interested, i'll either do a spreadsheet or type something up in VB.

The fundraiser issue is nto possble right now. Once SBA gets its 501(501 is tax exempt right?....im not a buisness major LOL), that issue may change, but right now I cant put any more burden on SBA than they already have. Like the website says, we can accept loaning on a permanent basis, but cant take donations YET.

This rocket is just lifting off, and i think its going to fly properly

I had a comment made to me today that I want to adress, and will probably address on the website.


This is not meant as disrespect to FTAB. I'm not blaming them for not coming out, im not accusing them of anything. I understand the ramifications that could arise if they came out officialy. I have no plan of cutting them out, of making fun of them, or of stealing any of there traditions. I respect the band, and wish very much i could have gone back( Ill admit up front....i punched as a fish. Im not proud of it, nor the reasons i left. I can't go back now, because of an injury to my foot that would keep me from doing most pt). This comment was made by an old BQ, and I took offense to it.

This whole thing is nothing but an effort to do what the band cannot do. It's not about me, its not about BQ/CT vs. Non-reg, its about tradition. If the time should come in my tenure here(yeah right) that bonfire comes back to campus, I will be the first one to step up and call for the disbandment of Bonfire band and return that honor to FTAB.

I may have a lead on borrowing instruments.

I have been working on SB for 3 years and having been working slowly on getting old BQ's involved.

I might have a Trombone (complete with FTAB music) that someone might could use for burn night. I'd play it myself, but I'm probably going to be a little bit busy that night. I have a couple of old BQ's in my family that might want to make it out as well, so I'll talk to them about it.

Every year at one of the football games they have a former student band. I know they practice at least once before the game, I think that would be a good time to see if they're interested. I would say there is around 80 members in that band usually. See if you can get in touch with corp to see when all that happens.

Is till havent gotten a reply from marine or the other gentleman that contacted me. I have a few folks i know will be there, but not many.

I realise alot of people will be reluctant to commit till the end, but this will not come together right if we dont get it rolling soon. If you think you can, please let me know. I think ive found a source for some instrumentation, but im not entirely shure.


At the very least, I would like to see a drum unit out there, just to get the idea in peoples heads of what were doing.

I also still need to send out emails to the aggie clubs, but im working on that..
