In 2026, Bonfire continues as it began in 1907 and always has been - built and led by students.

COMING SOON: New episodes of the "Perimeter Fires" podcast. Find the "Perimeter Fires" podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, with Bonfire-motivated conversations with people in and around Bonfire, past and present.

Since January 2025, I have been hard at work building a new podcast and Gallery studio. Follow progress on Instagram at @dioncgallery and @oakhollowcreative and patreon.com/dioncgallery.

Until I'm moved in, "Monday Moti" will be infrequent, and live "Cull & Good Bull" sessions and podcast episodes will remain on hold. But scenes from Bonfire will continue to be posted to the Gallery online, with updates here.

This is a dated take. It will never be, certainly not as an authentic Bonfire. Which is to say one built, led, and fully executed entirely by students. It is this - and not Bonfire's location - that defines Bonfire. It began off campus. The first capital-B Bonfire was in 1907, off campus, after a win over Tulane. (There were bonfires earlier, going back into the late 1800s. The degree to which they were organized is unclear. But all were still off campus.)

Going into 1992 and Bonfire's last move on campus, the only dirt on campus that the University could spare was the Polo Fields - the drain pan of one of the nation's largest main campuses by acreage. There was another option offered at Riverside. By now, Bonfire would have already been moved from there again with all and the types of growth and work going on at that campus. There was a third option, off campus, and farther away than where Bonfire is now. That site had the best dirt, and no worries about future encroachment (up until maybe these upcoming Terafab developments). It was live on TexAgs at Burn '14 that Head Stack of Bonfire '91 said "we didn't move there because people thought it had to be on campus" then he pointed to the Stack behind him and said "that was wrong."

As has been noted by everyone who understands Bonfire - from decision makers to interested parties - if it's not built by students, it's not Bonfire. There's a lot of work yet to do. More work than could be expected of the Aggie student, already turning themselves inside out to build this and every Bonfire. I look forward to the continued and growing leadership of our Former Students whose contributions and vision are paving (literally, eventually) a way and a home for Bonfire.
