Wow, a double-digit number!

I've had a lot of help recently and it really is coming together. Very exciting.

Do you think the "lot of help" you've had could arrange a visit to Clements?

While we have contacted several scattered Old Nerds and some randoms, my help (as well as myself now) don't really have any social connection to inside Clements... BUT FHK's yellow told me they had a Clements contingent coming out. He said that some kids had came asking questions and had an interested group. Passed that, I haven't heard anything else.

Great work getting the nerds motivated and organized!

Hopefully I'll be able to make 1st cut, and I'll see if I can dig up some old nerds to make it out at some point.

I'll add that it's important to make sure they have a good experience at first cut. Keep an eye on folks and make sure everyone is involved and having a good time. If they enjoy it and go back and tell their friends, participation will grow.

That's the Hogs' secret to recruitment. Be bad asses. Make them feel welcome, make sure you have water and some food to share if they don't bring any. Patience with the virgins, but always showing them the best and SAFEST way to do things.

Make them know they're part of the crew just for coming out. People like to belong.

Remember '99.
OC Hogs Build Bonfire!

Every time I read Texags and come across some of you snivelling, tradition hating ladies, I lose a little more hope for A&M. Some of you candy-asses clearly got lost on the way to Austin, Lubbock or Waco. Please buy a map and leave. - Buck Turgidson

This just dawned on me...

Did the lekner fish paint their whole pots orange, or did they just give them an orange skunk stripe?

The tradition was that nerd fish had plain pots with an orange stripe until centerpole arrived. If the fish managed to fv<k centerpole, they were allowed to paint their pots then. Otherwise they had to wait a week until centerpole was raised.

Also, there's a group of lekner deads (from classes of '99 through '01) that will be around for the weekend of the Mizzou game.

Get me details ASAP about cut times and the cut site location (I didn't spot it on the web site yet) and they might be able to make it out for cut on Sunday 10/15.

My email is dkeegan at aggies dot com.

From what I saw, they were thin skunk stripes and a stripe around the brim.

Frick pots, right? Single skunk stripe down the middle and circle around brim. As for cut site, I can't tell you much till this weekend. I'm supposed to make it out there Sunday so I will e-mail you then.

October 15th is Father/Son Cut and (if it is like last year) we should be meeting with FHK at 6:15-6:30 in their Quad. If anything changes, I will let you know as soon as possible and keep you updated.
Keegan99

Yep, those are frick pots! Nice job!

I would imagine that the old nerds will want to wander out to cut site on their own a little later than the rendezvous time in the FHK quad (I'll keep that in mind just in case), but I'll get directions and other details later.

By the way, in case you didn't know, the orange pot that says "RED ASS NERDS" was 'nerd pot', which was the fish pot for lekner. Motivated fish could earn the right to wear it for a week throughout the fall (and get certain... uh... responsibilities). Typically five fish had it each year.

Excellent, I will use some old pots for Nerd Pots. I look forward to seeing you all out there and still pray that these kids make it out there.... I know they will, but this is so new and exciting and I just get anxious. And again, I'll get back to you with directions when I get them.

To be clear, Nerd Pot was a single pot that was passed around and kept by the chiefs and yellow when a fish didn't have it.

It lasted for years, though it was pretty torn up by the late 90's. It also had the initials of every fish that had ever earned it written on it, and each fish that had the pot had to memorize the entire line.

Well, I'll see how it goes and decide what we are going to do, but on another note, did yall use tape (electrical maybe?), permanent marker, or spray paint on your hard hats? I'm not looking for design (I feel that would require passdown which we don't deserve right now and is not remotely our call) but from a practicality perspective as to what works best. I used sticker letters and stencilled in spray paint on my old pot, but since I am only putting a little on this one I was wondering what I should do.

If you are asking what to do with a random pot, you can do whatever you want. Just have the solid orange background. Oxnard orange, but i don't think it is still around. The reason for the stripe and circle is so the fish don't come out on first day of cut with something idiotic on their pot. We made them wait til centerpole, then they may have a nickname or better idea for the pot. As for the yellow pot, helvetica font stick ons from hobby lobby were used. The axe-machette "L" was put on with a sharpie. The grackle feet came from fish lot. As for the clueless crew chiefs, I have no idea how they cobbled their pots together.

Yes, I was talking about the clueless crew chiefs, but with that tidbit of information, I just wing it and remain clueless.

DoctorSnoball

Ah, well if you still wanted to do SB and your dorm doesn't have a crew, talk to people from different dorms and find out more about each crew and join one. I am partial to Lechner, but always been a fan of Hart, plus "Centralside" is much closer than Northside.
