Wow. Yes, I'm sure she remembers folks like you that don't show up to our all-day fiesta every game day in College Station. We'll be back this year, and our parking got upgraded.

What are you doing now?

By the way, on the JCPs, their normal responsibilities would have focused around splicing centerpole. Other than that, they would have helped out the JRPs but wouldn't have walked the pole our had quite the responsibilites at stack that they did in '97.

Gotcha..thanks for the info.

What lot did y'all move to? I moved to Dallas first of May and I'm working for a corporate real estate firm up here. I like it a lot. I work a lot, but I still have time to jack around (as is evidenced that my Texags posting hasn't been too negatively effected). I ran into your sister at the bar a couple of weeks ago, didn't really get a chance to talk to her.

How's your job? Are you still thinking about your MBA? Tell you wife I miss her and I'm gonna try and give her a call this weekend.

We didn't really move lots. But Reed "E" lot was expanded to include the 1/2 closest to Kyle Field. We're always there really early, so we'll be able to move closer. Not a true upgrade, but probably 100 yards closer to the game.

I just changed jobs about a month ago-working for another mortgage bank. It's going well. MBA plans have been put on hold indefinitely. I wanted to go out of state, and instead chose to stay w/my last job and buy a house. Kind of difficult to go out of state when you own a house.

Good to hear man. Well I WILL call this weekend and we can catch up.

HTown99 - the Lechner yellow from '97's last name was Sutcliffe, and I know Thomas was the jerp that had the conversation with him when he was working as a random in a swing off shift.

Are you sure on '97? Thomas was a JRP in '98 is why I'm asking. I thought you meant class of '97. Do you know the class of '97's name? Sometimes I guess it gets confusing trying to distinguish between class year and bonfire year.

Keegan..my roommate and I were talking about this yesterday. The Bonfire 98/Class of 01 Yellow was named Dave. Skinny kid with blond hair? But I didn't exactly see him as redpot material. (Me being the expert of course on what makes a good redpot.) I'm pretty darn sure he didn't get asked for the Truck or Civ. Woods line. And I can't see him being asked before Roy for Head Civ. That only leaves him maybe being asked before 13 from HHH.

We were talking and we remember the Bonfire 97 yellow/class of 2000 yellow being a little more squared away than him.

EDIT: That kinda came across as sounding derogatory to David. It wasn't meant that way. Just in my less than valuable opinion that I like to interject whether it is asked for or not, I didn't see him being asked. Especially knowing what I think I know about who got asked that year.

Ok, yea, I guess Dave was '98. Years have gotten mixed up over time. We were honestly surprised when Thomas had the conversation with him, because our opinion mirrored yours, Chip

There were also rumors that his dad (Ben Martinez '00) from Bonfire '97 was considered.

The yellow from the class of 1997 (Bonfire '94) was a guy named Dobson. He wasn't around at all his junior year (my fish year) so I don't know anything about him.

Keeg - Maybe they were just screwing with him. Like when the really cool guy goes up to the ugly girl at the high school dance and asks her to dance to really make fun of her?

The Lechner yellow line:

Bonfire - Name and Class Year

'91 - McKenna '94 (later was red)
'92 - Lilley '95
'93 - Matzer '96 (Cubby's twin brother)
'94 - Dobson '97
'95 - Dore '98 (now an MD - he did a badass job as a yellow - one chief pot rested and the other chief couldn't live in the dorm due to grades)
'96 - Matragrano '99 (currently has MBA and works for Ford)
'97 - Martinez '00 (lives in California, works for the navy as a civilian engineer and travels the world)
'98 - Sutcliffe '01 (last ran into him at a Petty concert in San Antonio over a year ago... I think he was planning on med school again)
'99 - Christopherson '02

Funny note... Lechner's official color was 'Oxnard Orange', part of Krylon's now defunct 'California Colors' line. Martinez '00 now owns a house in Oxnard, CA.

Chip - yea, except Chippy (I think - mighta been another red) spent like an hour talking to Dave's dad (Ben) about him, which seemed sort of odd.

Dobson is who I was thinking of. I've always heard that either they wanted him and asked him or they wanted him and he let it be known that he didn't want it. His brother was a Crocker CC in '97.

Yea I was just going off what someone had told me about the 90% thing (it sounded reasonable at the time)

But anyways, all the Corps pots and Non-reg pots should get together, put the differences aside and team up. We could get some major stuff done around campus as far as spirit and gettin bonfire back.

And yea Craig Rotter and all the RHA pukes talk to us all the time about how our dorm should have a strong hall council and that crew chiefs arent needed anymore. I'm not a chief by the way and I think they have a valid position still.
aggiect04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
MosesHallRAB:.......I agree with you about getting together....Do you have any ideas about what to do?
Socrates05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
At the least they could build a better relatioship between the corps and northside by organizing football games or something like that. We're getting tired of beating walton and moses anyways.
MosesHallRAB
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well I was thinkin just get everyone together in a casual place, maybe the Chicken when its not too crowded and loud. Just something to get everyone together and get people to know each other and keep in good contact. I would stay clear of the football games for a while, cuz those sometimes don't end on a good note, especially last semester's Moses-Walton football game.

I'm not exactly sure what we could accomplish but I'm pretty sure we could get something done. Atleast it would let people know we're serious about something. Aslong as noone's claimin to be a Redpot or something they're not there shouldn't be too much trouble.
MosesHallRAB
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Oh and this would be all pots getting together. And I'm thinking of big ideas with the ultimate goal of being able to build a bonfire when they let us do it again, because someones gonna have to be leading the building of it, and no reason why it shouldn't be legitamate bonfire pot lines.

MosesHall...this is something that my roommate and I were talking about the other day...I've asked this to my buddy (RAB chief) and he got all pissy at me.

Exactly what criterion are being used for passing the pots? Who can "hang out" the best? Drink the most beer? Is the most fun to be around? These things might fit what you need for your "chiefs" right now...but supposing that these chiefs ever had any Bonfire responsibilities (which the University won't allow to happen) that means you have had the biggest bunch of drunks for chiefs, not the ones who are going to be most dedicated to the cause or responsible ones or any other characteristics that make a good chief.
ChipFTAC01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
RAB...that wasn't meant as a flame, but as a serious question raised by a lot of old bonfire people. While I'm sure that your "chiefs" are doing fine with what they are doing now and filling your needs, to think that just passing a pot and an ae handle down will allow them to be good Bonfire leaders is kinda silly.
aggiect04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think something like getting everyone together should happen, even just for the sake of the spirit and the camraderie....
did anyone here go or plan to go to the u.p. student bonfire? It has to start somewhere....
Socrates05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Im not exactly sure what a chief would need for Bonfire but I think one of the most important parts of being a crew chief would just be to be a good leader and those people can still be found. Also things like the unity project give a little insight into how helpful they would be if Bonfire ever came back. I agree about unity project, its as a good a start to bringing Bonfire back as any, plus I had a great time out there last fall.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Our chiefs were chosen out of the ones who were the most active in the dorm, showed the most responsibility (not drunk all the time and not doin stupid stuff) and their dedication to Texas A&M, Aggie Bonfire, and Moses Hall. While being New Boys and Chiefs they're not really allowed to drink. With the administration constantly on their back they have actually had to be even more responsible and made sure they didn't get in trouble for anything. Our old chiefs ('99 and earlier) still keep involved with the dorm and make sure we're not messin up.

Obviously they don't have complete Aggie Bonfire experience, but they do have knowledge of how it goes. I'm sure most people have heard what we do during the fall, so I'm not gonna get into that.

I can't speak for other dorms but our guys are chosen based on the right stuff. You really had to work your butt off in order to get the pot.

I wonder if any administration is reading this...

Chip...you have got to be the leading authority on Bonfire as of right now (at least out of all the people I know).

I would give my right arm to have the experiences that you and aggiealphamale have had. Thanks for all your work guys and keep up the spirit.

ChipFTAC01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A99 - The day that I am the leading authority on Bonfire is a sad sad day for Aggie Bonfire. I'm certain that if PurdueAg ever wandered over here he would laugh his ass off at that comment. I think he's the only one of my boys that posts on here. I got drunk right beofre Christmas and decided I was gonna chop down a tree, so I went and picked up my old roommate and we drove out to my friend's land. He wasn't there but we did anyways. We beat on the tree for about 10 minutes, decided that cutting down trees when it is cold and dark, you haven't cleared and you are drunk really sucks, so we went home.

Thanks for calling me back. Cak. I bet you and Paul were humping in the kitchen.

The JCPs were also responsible for fueling and maintenence on the tractors during cut.

Are you sure about the Lechner yellow (c/o 97) being asked?

No, I'm not sure of that (Lechner yellow), it's just what I had heard.

ChipFTAC01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Dunn had a yellow, a head chief and 4 other chiefs. Their yellows pot was an old helmet (instead of just the liner like a normal pot)

In most dorms, chief pots were redone every year. They were sanded down, repainted and letters and stuff put back on.

The Dunn yellow just put several more coats on. It was ridiculous how thick the paint was on it.

Fun little Dunn traditions I remember. At dorm log, the Dunn yellow would get groded and stripped and his clothes thrown in the top of a tree. He would have to cut the tree down in the buff to get it back.

They also used to always have a stripper in the woods at Dorm log. In '97 they got in trouble for it, all of the chiefs were "black potted". So were a few other individuals. There are others on this board that comment better on that though.
ChipFTAC01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also, if I remember correctly, Dunn used to leave cut earlier than everyone else (mid Afternoon maybe) and go back to the fields and unload trucks the rest of the afternoon. I always though how funny it was how proud they were about getting to go to DUNN-load instead of staying in the woods and Loading at the end of the day. I liked Load infinately more than Unload. But hey, that was thier thing. More power to 'em.

I think Puryear used to do unload 'til they got torn down and then Dunn took over but I could be wrong.
