With Crocker, McInnis and Moore going down, we are losing a huge chunk of the cutting crews. What are we going to do? I'm only a junior, but I want Bonfire to be experienced by ALL Aggies. Do we have to start fighting to get it legitimized again?

We will always have a fight keeping Bonfire going. However, the issues that bring the fight will change.

Bonfire IS legitimate. End of story.

Building it every year is all that matters. That's it. Period. sips protest, Aggies build Bonfire. To distract yourself from that and put together some kind of movement takes your energy and talent away from where it is best used... on Bonfire. Build it.

And as for those other dorms, their residents had the chance to build it, and many of them will continue to. They may follow their chiefs into other dorms long thought dead and many hundreds if not thousands of young men and women will have an opportunity they would have otherwise missed.

And I will reiterate, if you have any room in your heart for the notion that what you are doing out there is anything less than absolutely legitimate, then you're just not getting it.

So build it. Nothing less. And you just can't give more.

Bring it closer in...that way people still on the fence about it can be exposed to it more easily. Having to make a 45 minute trip to cut and a 45 minute trip to stack could be enough for some people to say "Man I'd love to find out what this is all about and get involved, but and hour and a half travel time...? I just dunno"

Damn, I thought you had quit posting here.

25 minutes to Stack site. And it's not getting any closer because Brazos County hasn't been kind to Bonfire since long before '99, and Robertson County loves it. The current site is as close to Brazos County as you can get while not being in it. Can't ask for much better.

stack site is a lot closer than 45mins.

as far as cut goes, we are limited to what is available to us on a year to year basis.

That was the case before 1999.

It's a loss, but far from a fatal one. We'll still have Lechner, Walton, FHK, Hart, Dunn, OC, etc. We'll even still have the McInnis Crew, living in Krueger.

Just because the dorms aren't around doesn't necessarily mean their lines are going to die. Hell, the superdorm they're building should produce a pretty good crew in a few years... I mean, there'll be enough people living there that it should :rolls eyes:

I've talked to some of them, they don't really seem to have a clear plan. I'm not saying that what we do out there isn't Aggie Bonfire, when I legitimized, I mean make it to where "Bonfire" isn't a bad word anymore. I have faith in my fellow Ags that we can keep this going

Anyone who feel and see what bonfire is about is not going to complain about a 30 min drive.

Besides what else do you have to do at 5AM?

There's a spirit can ne'er be told

Bonfire will be fine. Those dorms will find new homes on Southside and start crews there. OC is really starting to pick up steam since they can recruit in ways that dorms can't (writing on chalkboards in classes, for instance), and should only get bigger from here. Hart had a down year this year, but you never know what the next crop of fish will bring, and they should be right back up at the top in numbers. Lechner is really starting to tap into the potential it has since it pulls from three dorms. Walton will still be strong. Hopefully FHK will get on top of their **** too and make the most out of having so many residents. Dunn had a pretty bad year this year, I'm really not sure how they will respond. Makes me feel bad for Zach, Chuckles, and Funke who all worked so hard to get that yellow back.

Long story short, bonfire will be fine.

One thing that I have noticed in the last few years is that OUR bonfire is very cyclical. A strong crew this year does not guarantee a strong one next year and vica/verse. But the whole of the numbers continues to rise!!!

you would be surprised how hard it is to actually recruit off campus. the leadership did a good job getting our name out this year. it's harder when you don't have a hallway full of fish that you can bang on their doors at 5am :p

The old Bonifre was cyclical as well. Due to a good group of chiefs (or a bad group) and a good/bad group of freshmen, dorms and outfits waned and waxed in their relative Bonfire strength.

I agree that numbers vary from year to year, and that you cannot predict numbers based on previous years. But when one dorm drops in number, another seems to rise. It is not important what dorm the fish come with, it is just important that they come.

To reply to McInnisAg08's statement...I have no problem at all making the drive to see Bonfire, no matter how far it is. I drove the distance to see it burn back when it was held on that ranch (2006-2008) and am very willing to drive even further to see it! I was even out at Bonfire 2010 several hours early pretty much knowing the burn ban was going to affect it but Aggie Bonfire is the one event every year I look forward to...and always will!

I predict Dunn will more Crocker-esque than Dunn-ish in two years time, be prepared to see Dunn Bonfire hats in the model of the crocker ones
