Just watched the Documentary "Return of the Thundering Heard" that the movie "We are Marshall" is based on.

I couldn't help but think about that and Bonfire in comparison. In the interviews of all the survivors, coach’s wives, community etc.
They all talked about how important it was to continue with football and honor those that died by living life and moving forward.

It makes me so sad that we took the opposite approach. I realize a lot has to do with the times we live in but the people at Marshall University certainly made the tough but correct decision to honor those that died by continuing the program.

It was a different time. And the university wasn't at fault.

I think the big story is we as a society have changed and not for the better.

I doubt more then a handful of the biggest schools would bring back football if that happened now.
And no doubt there would be lawsuits against the Airline, Charter Company & the University today.

We can't even rebuild the World Trade Center. If that attack happened 20-30 years ago we would have made a point of building it ASAP to show the world our resolve.

Unfortunately our resolve now days, is not to confront tough issues or risk offending anyone.

As to fault forget about a legal ruling Bonfire was an accident without any malicious intent in the truest since and accidents happen daily, tragedy happens daily.
It is how we persevere and move forward that reveal character.

Well, almost the Entire football team died. However tragic the Bonfire incident was, it wasn't the same as the Marshall plane crash.

The students of the Marshall team that died didn't die while playing football. As awful as what happened is, I can't see them deciding to discontinue the football program permanently because of deaths that didn't occur while playing football, even if it occurred today. As for malicious intent, the plaintiffs in the Bonfire suit claim negligence, not maliciousness, when can be just as bad when you should know better. When bridges fail, investigations often find that the construction was improperly done, materials were substandard, or upkeep was neglected--not that it was an accident. That said, accidents do happen daily, unfortunately we often call happenings we don't know enough about accidents.
