Could someone please answer for me what happend with the busses this year? In the past, we set it up that all busses ran until the majority of the crowd returned to their cars. That took until about 12:30 or so... My guess is that people were still in line after 2.

I overheard many tired, grumpy people that said they would not come back because of the bus lines, and I find that unfortunate.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Bonfire leadership would be wise to form a Burn Night committee. I know it's easy to focus on the building, believe me, I've been there... but when you have an event that draws large crowds, you have to plan and have people responsible for the execution of that plan.

Aside from that and a few other issues, the burn was beautiful and everyone involved should be proud for their accomplishments. Bonfire is amazing and I wish only for its continued success.

For all those who sacrificed so much, thank you again for overcoming obstacles to preserve tradition and unite the Aggie Family. Know that my question and advice comes from a constructive place.

I don't have an answer, but my observation is this:
Going out, it appeared that 6-7 busses were running and the line was orderly, marked by yellow tape. Returning, people (or should I say packs of people) were cutting in line due to no orderly process in making a line. In addition, only 3 busses were running when I got on at 11:40p after being in line since 8:30p
I would love to see it back on campus.

Yeah, I rode in a truck back out to the parking lot at around 1130pm from burn. I counted 4 buses running. I think if money is the issue, they should hire more buses to come online at around 9-930, to aliveate the rush after it is lit.

It is nice to have bonfire at a place that seems to be built around handling 45k+ people and then getting them back after a few hours of entertainment....

We came and parked early, and on our way out about a dozen people asked if they could hop into the back of our truck to get dropped off at the other parking. We let them, of course.

Its called event planning.

It needs major work. Only thing really holding student bonfire back.

not all of the problems stem from lack of planning on the part of bonfire leadership there are also logistic and regulations that durham and it's drives are under. thus there may be more to this than we realize and it may be something that is not as easily overcome as people would like. but i do hope that bonfire leadership can work through it for next year.

That was the case for getting there, on the return though, they only had 3 running.

Press release from Student Bonfire. Apparently we had record turnout and they were not expecting it. I think there was also a problem with people not getting there early enough partially because of what was on the news Sunday about a tanker truck rolling and catching fire on one of the routes in forcing traffic to be blocked for an hour or so. This would also be why they didn't light til 8:30 as opposed to dark-thirty.

Yall have fun and BTHOB '09. I will be stuck in iraq again so I will miss it. See yall in '10.
