I might just be very uninformed but I was at the Bonfire memorial this weekend and there were some quarters and a few other coins at the center pole area. What is the purpose? I really don't know so I'm not bashing.
Also does anyone have a audio clip of the last corp trip?
Thanks for the input.

Differing opinions, but you'll find some discussion that may help you there.

Once again..no answer.

This is a new thing, that's all I know. New Army's way of trying to create a tradition that has no validity or rational base. Great.

Hey other people put quarters down and even though I don't know what it means, I'm going to do it too.

We should start a new tradition of clearing off the plaque when we see coins on it.

Already doin' it chief. Really ticked me when people started coming up last night right afterwards and then *clink* set a coin down right smack next to the roses & lights on CP.

What might have meant something to one person who was doing something for very personal reasons (maybe?) gets copied by some ignorant person who is doing something because the last person did without any knowledge.

Probably the same kids that put pennies on Rudder's statue.

Kenneth-you are exactly right!!!! I was coming back to this thread to write exactly that. I clear the pennies off of Rudder too.

It must've meant something to one person and it started a flock of people.

Note: Don't follow the flock, it might be dumb enough to jump off a cliff.

um, that's been going on for a hell of a long time...hopefully you were kidding about not knowing this..

quote:
Within weeks of Ross's death former cadets at Texas AMC began gathering funds for a monument. In 1917, the state appropriated $10,000 for the monument, and 2 years later a 10 foot bronze statue of Ross, sculpted by Pompeo Coppini, was unveiled at the center of the Texas AMC campus.

Some time later, students began the tradition of placing pennies at his feet before exams for good luck. A&M legend states that Ross would often tutor students, and as payment would accept only a penny for their thoughts. At exam time his statue, located in Academic Plaza, is often covered in pennies.

Precisely why we are having the problem with the pennies. People aren't bothering to read about the traditions they just follow the ignorant few.

God I seriously hope that walkeanne is kidding with that post. If not she should be banished from the school.
