I don't have a clue who to talk to about this, so I will just post here. I heard on the Brenham radio station this AM that the off campus bonfire may not be allowed to be lit due to the burn ban in Robertson County.

I am offering up my fire truck to help protect any exposures, grass fires etc... if that would help the powers that be. It is a functioning pumper and holds 750 gallons of water. I am a certified firefighter and would stand by the entire time.

email me if needed

if there is a burn ban are they gonna allow SB to just say f-it like in '05?

SB has stated that they will operate within the law. Period.

If the commissioners decide on Friday to temporarily lift the burn ban just for SB, allow the Bonfire to be burned under a ceremonial exception, lift the ban, or lift the ban pending a certain quantity of rainfall (and that rainfall occurs); Bonfire will be lit Saturday at o'dark thirty.

If there is not an exception and the ban still exists at that time, the Bonfire leadership will not willfully violate the burn ban or any other law.

Pray for rain.

82aggieff1- good bull, and thank you

I dont mean to hijack the thread, but i'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether the 05 reds knowingly broke the law, or if they received bad legal advice leading them to believe they were in the clear. Ive heard conflicting stories

82aggie,

Thanks for the offer and support. I passed it on last night and your support is greatly appreciated, but there are enough VFDs attending to cover the situation. It's nice to know that folks like you are willing to step up and make such an offer though.

Thanks again

I went to the 05 bonfire, and it was my understanding from what was on the local news that they knowingly broke the law by lighting bonfire, and had even made arrangements to meet with law enforcement to received their "tickets" once the fire was lit.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if A&M was somehow behind these so-called "burn" bans. Seems like there's always one around the time Bonfire is lit...

Do you remember the last time it rained? Do you remember those fires in San Diego?

Count me in as one who does not believe in any burn ban conspiracy theroies...

In '05 I'm still nto sure....certainly was convenient, and at the very least it was local politics......

This time I don't think so, unless A&M talked the national weather service into putting out fake fire watches to...

Tell me this is a joke. Do you not remember the record setting rains we had all summer? The ground is still completely saturated from that. I work in construction and we are hitting water MUCH shallow that what is shown in the boring logs from the beginning of this year.

The problem is that the record setting rain we had this summer created an over abundance of foliage, so now what we have is an over abundance of fuel in dried bushes, plants, trees, etc.

they have no reason to influence a "ban" to prevent the burn. Many of the administration actually would like to bring it back on campus. but there is financially no way that they can bring it back on campus now or in the near future.

the issue is the time of burn. this is always a dry time of year, and then it rains over thanksgiving break and thats when it finally stays cold.

Just general information about 2005:

1) There were no Redpots, there were Greypots

2) There was an injunction filed the morning of the 18th to prevent lighting of the stack

3) The county (Brazos) after meeting with the Greypots (jrs. and srs.) and an attorney representing Aggie Student Bonfire decided to not uphold the injunction but cite those who chose to light the stack (which was all 7 jrs. and sr. Greypots). The deal was struck on the 18th and Bonfire happened on the 19th (Saturday).

4) There were no f'its like was mentioned, the stack was lit and the leadership took their medicine ($500 tickets) which was taken care of by donors (Generous souls God Bless you all!)

5) The decision was made after that year (2005) to postpone (burn) in the event that there was a burn ban.

I know this to be fact, I was there.

From the information that I have received about this year, the leadership is doing just that (read number 5) and should be commended for sticking to the rules even though the present outcome is disappointing for many people. Please continue to show support for this worthy organization and to the men and women that participate.

Since it rained, I hope they let it burn. I know about the local vollies, but sometimes they get stubborn and won't "stand by". Good luck with the burn.

Even with FD on scene, you're not getting around the burn ban unless you've obtained exemption permits from the county.

There is no conspiracy on the burn ban. Time to remove the tin foil hats b/c there are no black helos hovering.

I don't believe you can make a blanket statement that no matter what, with a burn ban you cannot light it. There are ways around it. Heck, it's not but a $200 ticket anyway.

The way it works in Robertson County if you evade the burn ban is. 1. Officers go en route. 2. Four different fire departments will be en route. 3. While the officers are writing tickets and possibly arresting people (contempt, endangerment, arson, or anything else he wishes to throw at you), the fire department will be drowning the bonfire with Class A foam. 4. A bill will come from the fire departments to the Student Bonfire organization for fuel/equipment/time and effort. The base fee is somewhere around $500 for breaking the burn ban, but word is people involved will be charged with more then just that.

We love that the bonfire is in Robertson County, that is great, but the county powers will not tolerate disregard of agreements that have been made between the county and SB, along with possible endangerment to the surrounding property. Last year wasn't so dry but we still spent the night putting out small fires on the surrounding land.

where? There was 1 that ignited just past the trailer, but it was still on the same property.

They would not have to send out 4 different departments since at least 4 signed up to be on site in the first place...last year a few of the different stations had footraces to see who got to stomp out the fires first.
WCapt707
How long do you want to ignore this user?
What? Who had footraces? The only fire departments there last year were Franklin and us (Wheelock). We had 3 trucks and about 10 firefighters in the woods closest to bonfire all night putting out the brush fires started by embers. I have no clue who you're talking about having foot races but it wasn't us.

Black Jack VFD was around (on-duty...their territory), too and I believe a truck or two came from Bryan...VFD off duty or training, I'm not sure...most likely to take advantage of the "bring a firetruck and get in free" offer we gave out. If any others came out I had become too busy to meet them or say, "Howdy!"

EMS and PHI were both there, I forgot about them. Blackjack was banned internally from going to the bonfire site do to problems with an individual, but they did help with traffic. I didn't hear of anyone from Brazos County showing up. Anyways, burn ban lift is looking hopeful, we'll be out there no matter the date, good job guys.

You state that four different fire departments would be sent to the burn. Why would the county leave three fire districts unprotected? So you are saying the one department with a tanker, several pumpers for a water shuttle and class a foam is not sufficient? I'm having a hard time accepting that four departments would be on the initial response.

That is a quadruple toned area. Covered by Hearne, Wheelock, Franklin, and Blackjack. It is up to the departments discretion on how many trucks/personnel to send. Most departments have enough apparatus and staff to send a crew at that time of night and still have trucks in the station. I merely came here because of seeing misleading information in some posts involving the fire department and my county, if my presence is not wanted then I have no problem leaving. I've been fighting fire for 10 years, I'm a Captain and occasional driver, I know what goes on in my county and in my department.
WCapt707
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you want to come talk to us, we'll be out there in an engine and our grass truck, along with whatever Franklin brings. You're welcome to come explain to us how to run our departments. Once again, we love that bonfire is in Robertson County, we showed our support last year to keep bonfire in the county after the ex-judge wanted it gone. Let's just hope the neighbors of Bonfire (UT fans) don't continue to complain.
