This could very well have been posted here before (bomb me if it has), but in an episode of Family Guy a barbershop quartet explains the meaning of the word 'vasectomy' to Peter thru song...

...but song seems to be a broadwayish version of a portion of the Aggie War Hymn. Check it out.

It's to Coney Island Baby, which is based on the War Hymn.

Actually, if you looks at copyright dates, the War Hymn precedes Coney Island Baby.

Now, I'm not a smart man, but I think WWI was before 1945, but you can check for me.

Now they might both be based on the same music borrowed from another source.

That is just a copyright for that song, I believe the original was "Hello, My Coney Island Baby" which was one of the more popular barbershop songs. Barbershop quartets started around the turn of the century, so it is possible the tune was never copyrighted as it was a "standard" musical number for barbershop quartets. Wilson more than likely knew the tune (as everybody else did) and penned the lyrics.

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6M8KJef4kQ for a nice rendition of the "Goodbye, My Coney Island Baby.

In other news, "Hot Time" is, of course, another borrowed tune. The original was "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow", which is a song created to explain the great Chicago fire of 1871.

Additionaly, "Saw Varsity's Horns Off" is actually the children's song "Go Tell Aunt Rhodie (the gray goose is dead)."

Both us and tu COMPLETELY ripped off the melody for our school songs. It just so happens that EVERYONE knows "I've Been Workin On the Railroad" and virtually no one outside of barbershop quartets and Seth MacFarlane know about "Goodbye My Coney Island Baby."

It also made an appearance on the Simpsons.

Boomer Sooner, now that's original.

Has the same music as Yale's fight song.

Yeah, copyright dates probably mean little in this case. I am going to go out on a limb and say it is more likely that the guy who wrote our song was familiar with a populare barbershop song rather than the reverse.
