I have to spend a week in Birmingham, Alabama.

Anyone familiar with the place that can recommend sights, events, museums, restaurants, etc.?

Dreamland in Tuscaloosa has great ribs.

I realize that's a ways from Birmingham.

You should stop in Tuscaloosa and get some Dreamland BBQ or Full Moon. It's only about 45-60 minute drive on the interstate from B-ham.

There's a Dreamland location near UAB, too. Stop in for a whole mess of ribs!

ross bridge is great if you stay the weekend or can get free for golf later in the week:

There is a dreamland BBQ in birmingham as well. never been there, jus the one in tuscalossa. not sure if it is as good. it is near UAB.

highlands bar and grill and Bottega are the best two fine dining restaurants in the city. they work best with an expense account.

if you are into jazz, 22nd street jazz club is pretty good but, naturally, depends on the act.

civil rights institute and museum is cool as well.

birmingham is one of those cities that is a great place to live but not the most conducive for business travel or tourism. let us know what you think. I see some bashing on texags but I don't know many people who have spent time there and didn't enjoy it.

Avoid Highway 280 during rush hour if you can.

make the drive to the original Dreamland BBQ in Tuscaloosa...it's worth the trip.. Then you can go take a quick look at the U of A. I thik there is a pretty good bar district downtown, but it's been years since I've been there.
