What do you think? I think it has a lot of potential when they polish it up for their new album! Especially with Rick Rubin at the helm.

Good stuff!

Was that from a concert in Austin? Seemed to be a lot of t-sips flashing hook 'em horns in the crowd.

Actually, I think it was filmed in San Antonio. Lot's more t-shirt sips than real sips in Austin.

not bad...I'd like to hear the recorded version. Since the black album, haven't really listened to much they've put out. This has promise.

The solo is very Garage Inc. disc 1.

Yeah. F*** them for not wanting people stealing their music and more importantly not wanting songs that they haven't even finished recording yet to be widely distributed. What jerks.

Be mad at who you should be. The end of Napster came about because some ****** pump at their recording studio stole a song and put it on the internet. It's what they do for a living. Why it makes them greedy because they don't want people taking their material for free I will never know.

well being someone who got hit with the metallica/napster thing i figure i'll weigh in here:

in my case, i was only downloading metallica songs that i had already owned on cd. and yes i owned all the albums but master of puppets. at the time, i didn't realize that you could rip the songs easily. i thought you had to have a fancy program and i didn't really want to get a bunch of software i wouldn't use much just to rip the cds. i wanted to be able to listen to a bunch of songs without having to change cds a lot. kind of like making a greatest hits album for my computer. i never allowed any of my songs to be downloaded because my computer connection was slow enough already. any time someone would try to download; i would cancel it. then one day i logged onto napster and it said i had been banned by metallica. a group that at the time was the only stuff i listened to. this was like a slap in the face to me from a band i loved. since that day i can't listen to a metallica album without getting a little hacked at lars specifically. the day i saw him on mtv spouting off that people were stealing their property just put a sour taste in my mouth that has yet to go away, though it has weakened over the years. Yes, i think they were a little greedy with the way that they went about it. if they had sales dropping it was because they were making crappy music at the time, aka load and reload, not people downloading their music online.

but to each his own i guess.

rant over.

i have downloaded some songs. But I really dont get the Metallica is greedy crowd. Its illegal to bootleg movies. Its illegal to photocopy entire books. It's illegal to use trademarks and pass them off as your own (see 12th Man). You can argue that Metallica has made crappy music ever since AJFA, and i would completely agree with you. But I will not agree with you that just b/c Metallica is already rich, they should not try and protect themselves from thieves.

Anyone who saw "Some Kind of Monster" knows that those guys are a bunch of babies- particularly Lars. That guy has got to be one of the biggest dooshbags in the music industry.

Metallica sold out a long time ago. They only care about one thing- money, and it happened way before Napster ever existed.

You sure have an odd definition of "cry". I'm just stating fact dude. They make it very easy for people to dislike them.

I don't hate or love bands. Not knowing there band members personally, I simply hate or love their music. Because of this I really like Metallica. Are they dicks, maybe. Does that mean I can't like their music, absolutely not.

Sold out has to be the single most overused phrase in the history of the planet. Define sold out. Hell, there are people out there who define selling out as taking money to make music. Period. Then there are the real geniuses who think someone sold out the second they become really popular and actually have a fan base. Now, if you're the special kind that decided that they sold out because their music evolved a little then you really just need to stop talking. As for the greedy nonsense, their trying to make money. That is what they want to do. I don't think that they ever said they weren't. They don't lie about it. Not giving away their stuff or charging a premium to see their show is not wrong or evil. If people are going to pay it, then keep raising the prices. Amazingly enough, people can control their spending. Seeing Metallica is not a necessary thing to make it through the day.

In response to those who've felt betrayed by Metallica for what they did, did they know you owned their music beforehand? Probably not. They had no way of knowing that Joe Schmoe owned most of the music already and just wanted to have a best of compilation. All they saw was somebody downloading music illegally and they put a stop to it. One more thing...even if somebody owns an album in whatever format (cd, tape, etc) does that somehow make it legal for them to use a file-sharing site to download those songs? I'm curious b/c I've seen many people make comments or allusions which basically say its true.

"Evolved" huh? They completely changed their music and image specifically for the purpose of selling more records/merchandise... Now look at a band like Pearl Jam (who I don't even necessarily like)- those guys continue to make music and could give a rat's a$$ about selling records. It's called INTEGRITY!

And I have to add, I was a fan of Metallica when I was young- I grew up listening to "Kill 'Em All", "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets", and "...And Justice For All". The Black album brought them tremendous commercial success, and they became an MTV band. Even though I didn't really like the album because it was such a drastic change from "Justice", there is no denying it was still a metal record. But if you consider the 180 they pulled with "Load" and "Reload" to be "evolving", you have very poor taste in music.

I would hardly say they became an MTV band. I realize that plenty of people don't like Load and ReLoad, but that doesn't mean that they changed what they were doing to pander.

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is so evil about trying to sell more records. If they're doing what they like and they're making their own music the way the like; what's the problem? You don't like it therefor they must be sellouts. Please. People can change their music and become more popular without being sellouts.

I totally agree with you, but not in this case.

But you see, they changed from a heavy metal band (Puppets, Justice, Black) to a grunge-influenced sound (Load, Reload) and they even played with a symphony! Instead of making the trend and leading the pack they became followers.

They've made loads of money and because of it they've lost their anger, now their music is poop.

I often wonder where they would be if Burton hadnt have died.

I think this is why ST. ANGER is so encouraging. They made an abrasive, hard to grasp cd that made everyone scratch their heads. Not a good cd, but makes their next step very interesting...
Whoop04

i agree. it was a step in the right direction. Their musical career has the potential to really do a 360. If you are a fan of rock, everyone should be hoping for this.
