Jake did fine in Donny Darko.
Umm...

There aren't nearly as many queers in this world as Hollywierd wants there to be. I think I'll skip this movie.
Now that you've spouted that little bit of bile, care to revisit us here in the real world? What, a half dozen gay characters come out in major films a year, and hardly an annual "gay-themed" film comes out, yet this is somehow advocacy? Well I, for one, think if that's the best they can offer their hearts aren't really in it.
Not to mention that there are - rest assured - many more queers in the world than you think there are. You'd be really, really shocked, I think.
Nevertheless, on topic:
Saw the movie today, and it really was good. The film is a character study through and through, just like its source material, so be forewarned there aren't many plot movements that give you a jolt. It relied on the performances, dialogue, and direction to engage the audience and I really think everyone did a great job. The film exudes the dull ache of longing, from every character on the screen. It's about loneliness, living unfulfilled, and remembrances of lost youth. You start looking for the littlest things that might make one of the characters happy, and rooting for it. "Please, let the car start on the first try, just this once..."-type thing.
You really get to see how one situation cascades out to so many other lives, too. The ladies did fantastic jobs, as well.
All around, it's a great movie. Just don't look for things to blow up or heavy gunslinging.
And Heath's accent was fine. It was just the combination of pronunciation and being extremely gruff that gave it awkwardness. I got the feeling his was supposed to be an awkward character anyway...
