What a fantastic film...that actually lives up to all the hype! Not sure if up the alley of a typically conservative Aggie crowd, but luckily for me I don;t lable myself as such...if you have a semblance of an open mind, see it (though something tells me that it won't be released too widely in Texas)

WARNING: Gay Aggie (or at least bisexual Aggie) implied in one scene...(cracked me up!) ...but it may offend some overly conservative sensibilities!!

Am I the only one that this movie reminds me of the South Park episode when the film festival comes to town? One of the indie films on the show was something on the line of "Gay cowboys eating pudding". I don't remember the exact title, but that is the first thing I thought of when I heard of this movie.

I'll never think of "Wagon Train" the same way again. (Or a saddlehorn for that matter)

I read the short story 3 years ago. It was in a anthology of "normal" westerns, so it pretty well blew me away. i'm reading along thinking it was a typical western, when asses start getting grabbed. i've been looking forward to the movie ever since. Larry McMurtry hates short stories since he cant write them, but he said this was the best bit of fiction he ever read and agreed to write the screenplay. the movie did not disappoint. amazing how well the uncomfortableness of the situation was translated to film. it was beautiful.

I don't know, call me a bigot or what ever, but I don't care to see a male on male love story. I typically don't like to see love stories in general, but the fact that you have to watch two men doing the hibitty gibitty makes it even less appealing than your typical chick flick.

Not really interested in gay cowboy movies. Not necessarily against them, just not my bag.

What would be even more "edgy" and "daring" would be a film about a cowboy who engages in love with his farm animals.

1) It would be more true to life than brokeback mountain. No question.

2) It would be equally worthy of critical acclaim.

If you disagree, then perhaps you are not as open minded as you think.

Is it true that all the good guys got it in the end?

I have no desire to see this movie, not because it is a gay love story, but the story just seems boring to me. I would think the same if it was a straight love story. Just looks kind of boring.

Slow-poke Mountain?

Just saw it yesterday and it was very good. It is really slow moving, so be warned of that. Only one uncomfortbale scene. I thought it was very well done, though was confused why Heath Ledger got an acting nomination in the Globes and Jake didn't. I personally liked Jake better in it.

For the guys who don't want to see it, both Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway show the girls off. Anne Hathaway = SPEC-TAC-U-LAR

Overall it was beautifully made and deserves the nominations. Fell just short of great for me, but still a very good film.

You know the thing I think kept this movie short of great for me was Heath Ledger. Ijust didn't believe his performance. Or rather his accent was kind of corny to me. Reminded me of Sling Blade too much.

I have not seen the movie, but Ledger's accent really bothered me in the previews. I like him as an actor, but I have no clue what he was trying to do there. Worst movie accent since Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, which is probably a good omen for Ledger's awards prospects.

His accent truly was terrible...he talked as if his mouth was paralyzed throughout the entire movie. I thought that his performance, however, was very good. His character was the more difficult of the two to portray which is probably why he'll get an oscar nomination.

I also thought the makeup wasn't the best I'd seen. I mean the movie spans at least 20-25 years, if not more, and they didn't really age much, other than growning some facial hair.

I guess I just wanted the movie to be great, and was kind of dissappointed that it was only really good. If that makes sense.

I didn't think his accent was that bad. He was so taciturn, and it highlighted that every word and sentence was almost a struggle for him to get out. It was even harder for him to verbalize his feelings about something he just didn't understand.
