Went to CD Exchange the other day and scored Cross Canadian Ragweed's "Soul Gravy". It had a bonus concert DVD. For $9, it was quite the steal.

The 2003 concert was stone's throw from my old dorm, Moore Hall (BMF since '42), at Shadow Canyon (the Grode Flicks, back in the day).

Anyone one here seen 'em live? Or at that particular concert? Looked like a good show.

I've seen them 6 times and yes, the one in 2003 was one of them! I was at the one this year, as well as Chilifest twice, and several more, but they are awesome in concert! They will be at Chilifest this year! They get better every time I see them! Go buy "Garage", it is just a good as Soul Gravy and it has another DVD!

Adam, I believe they are playing this wednesday at cowboys in San Antonio(judging by your username, that is your neck of the woods). Might wanna double check that. They put on a really good show.

Saw them at Concrete Street in Corpus last week. Good concert, lots of great rock-influence. If you want to get in on some free stuff and information about them, sign up for their i-Squad list at http://i-squad.com/link/link/MzM0MzU3fDE3OA==

Thanks, y'all.

Yes, I reside on the north end of the Alamo City. Alas, I will be in Wichita Falls and the Metroplex later this week and will miss CCR in SA. Thanks for the heads up, just the same.

I'll go out and get Garage.

Opinions on their earlier stuff? Like Carney?

I downloaded their cover of Willie's "Whiskey River" for my iPod. They did a great job on that. I was pretty disappointed with their cover of N Young's "Hey Hey My My", though.

Good Southern Rock/Outlaw Country. I cannot stand Pop Country, and these guys appear to be the antithesis of that.

Carney is probably my favorite. It's very raw and a not-so-good recording. Very different feel - more mellow and not so rock-driven.

their absolute best song is "brooklyn kid"

It's not my favorite song of theirs (I don't know that I can pick one out amongst all the good ones), but their new cover of George Thorogood's "Who Do You Love" is impressive.

cue the obligatory "Texas country is full of no talent hacks that only sing about Texas and beer" post.

I on the other hand, am a Ragweed fan and really am thankful I can find their CD's up here in SoDak.

Try Ellas McDaniel, not George Thorogood, as the source of that song, but CCR does lean a little too close to Thorogood's version. I wasn't impressed with their cover of "Stranglehold" on the Soul Gravy album either. If they are going to do covers, they need to step up to the plate and not just include them as album-filler.

I was at the DVD filming at Shadow Canyon. Soul Gravy is my favorite album, i love their new version of Alabama.

Best song is "Don't Need You" on Purple. Absolutely a song you want to turn up to 11.

Seymour, Texas

'nuff said.

Professor, is that a song of theirs?

Nope, it is where most of the band are from. That says more about their roots and music than anything else. They are a rockin' band from a small, hick (sorry Seymourites) town and I think that is why they resonate with most people.

I assumed you were talking about the town, since I had never heard of a song called Seymour. I was actually born at the Baylor County Hospital in Seymour, since the hospital in Munday, where my parents originally lived before we moved to Stamford for the majority of my life, did not deliver babies.

I thought they were from Oklahoma, not Seymour, but I could be wrong. If they are Baylor County boys, that makes them all the better.

They're actually from Yukon, Oklahoma, home of Garth Brooks!
