(putting "Shaun of the dead" on my Netflix list. Will report when I get around to it next week.)

I agree about those, huisache.

Movies from Australia: "Breaker Morant," "Strictly Ballroom," "Walkabout," "Rabbit-proof Fence," "Lantana;"

and New Zealand: "Whale Rider," "Vera Drake," "Heavenly Creatures," "Once Were Warriors"

all greatly benefit from sharing a common language with American viewers.

Subtitles certainly aren't a deal-breaker for me, but I do find them a neccessary nuisance to make a French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish or German, etc. movie accessible.

Gig 'em, FAST FRED '65.

Before the world wide web, village idiots usually stayed in their own village.

Also good from Australia:

The Castle (including an early performance by Eric Bana as a kickboxing newlywed)

I suspect some of the humor might be above you.

I rented Shaun of the Dead on a whim and ended up laughing my arse off. The humor is kind of simple, but it is better and funnier than I would have expected.

Also The Castle from Australia is pretty good too.

The humor of "Shaun of the Dean" may seem simple, but there was a great deal of thought put into it and a lot of homage paid to the classic genre movies - if you have the DVD be sure to check out the special features to see all of the references and blatant "wink-wink"s that are in there! Brilliant! :-)

And I love the chemistry between the characters - particularly Shaun and Ed! And the over-dramatized transition scenes! Loved it! (I also LOVE Queen so the whole "Don't Stop Me Now" jukebox scene killed me!)

Ok, I'll stop now...
