One of the best movies I've seen this year.
Wonderful, twisted film.
Pretty much every line Depp said had more rolling. Every one of the children were perfectly cast. Hell, they made me forget all about the kid actors from the original.

Oh, and if you're an Oingo Boingo fan you have to either see the film or listen to the soundtrack. Every Oompa-Loompa song had that Boingo feel to it. Elfman did a wonderful job with the score (as usual) but he Oompa-Loompa songs he did were outstanding.

pure crap.

Wilder was MUCH better.....and so were the songs.

saw it Saturday night with the family.

It was OK - better than I expected. I still prefer the original but I was entertained in this one.

Are they better than the Ooompa Loompa songs from "Family Guy"

I don't think you can compare the 2 movies that much. The story lines were different. One followed the book more closely than the other.

The new version has its good moments. My kids loved it! They also love the first one, too!

Saw it last night...great movie! Very funny, Depp was awesome! But definitely a Tim Burton film!

the story lines were just slightly different.

Wilder > Depp
Old songs > New songs
New Set/special effects > Old

How old does a child need to be to enjoy this film without being scared?

we had kids ranging from 5 - 10 with us, and they all liked it and none of them thought it was scary.

I think most kids 6 and up will see this movie and "get it" - that the 4 brats are just that, brats, and are getting their just rewards. None are killed, they're given their come-uppance. I think kids will leave saying, "Man, was she a brat!" rather than scared or freaked out by what happens to them.

I was never a fan of the original for some reason. The new one follows the book much more closely and I loved the new songs! Depp does an amazing job with Wonka, making him a character but not a caricuature. I'm not sure anyone else could have pulled that off with that interpretation.

Freddie Highmore is an amazing child actor. He rips your heart out in "Finding Neverland," and he makes Charlie brave and loyal to his family without being sappy.

I thought it was a pretty good film overall but the songs sucked!

Exactly.

I always hated the Charlie and Grandpa from the first one. The new cast was better besides Depp.

Was it just me, or did Depps Wonka sound like Dr. Evil?

I liked this one better EXCEPT for Depp. Wilder was far superior in every way. Talk Wilder and put him in this one and it would have been great. But, the difference between Wilder and Depp, IMHO, is so great that overall, I prefer the old one.

As for scared, my 6 year old was fine, my 4 year old (who likes the original) was kinda scared in the squirrel scene.

And this was a Tim Burton film all the way, it had his touch painted all over it.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." The words of Jesus; John 16:33

I liked the original Veruca Salt better. The original ending was better I thought. But I look at this as a whole different movie. I though Depp was good in it. I was entertained.
