VERY different from the first...

its going to be a personal preference deal as to which you like best, but put me down for the first.

they did do a great job of taking the characteristics of the kids and parents in the first and translating them to this generation.

i liked that they gave charlie a dad.

while i enjoyed depp's turn as wonka, i think wilder's is perhaps a bit more likable.

the oompa-loompa musical numbers were clever and catchy, but for some reason, they started to annoy me.

good movie. now i just need to see 'wedding crashers'...

Very much enjoyed it. Especially the line in the edible room.

Wasn't sure what I was getting into. Went to amuse the wife. Artistically astounding, very funny, quite enjoyable and creative. Good ending too. Two thumbs way up.

I havent seen it, but from what I've heard it's supposed to be alot more like the book than the first was.
I cant wait to see it though

I liked that Depp's wonka was more childlike than the parentish wonka by Wilder... Made the movie much better to me.

Both of these movies have definate strong points. I think Depp set forth not to make a Wonka comparable to Wilder, but his own "child like" Wonka(not michael jackson like unless you go looking for it i.e. Emperor Palpatine <=> GWB) . The new Oompa Loompa music I appreciated because it was more fitting to the book, but I couldn't understand it at times (though I do have bad hearing).

I liked the movie.

I agree that the Oompa Loompa songs got kind of annoying after a while.

At first I didn't like Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, but he grew on me. He was really funny - I don't remember the old movie being so funny. His laugh was great.

What age is too young for the Wonka re-make?

it was horrible.

Wilder is a much better Wonka. Depp really screwed up this Wonka.

I'm a huge fan of the original movie, and I loved this movie. Very true to the book. I started thinking of Depp as similar to Michael Jackson, but then got back to more of an Edward Scissorhands performance.

I did not the scene with the scissors in his hand.

I do wish they had included Golden Ticket.

Gap, granted I know nothing about kids, but it wasn't scary at all (i.e. no demonic boat ride like in the 1st). Worst it got was a kid getting sucked down a whirlpool of chocolate. Lots of kids in the theater when we saw it and no one cried that I heard.

I think the Jacko thing is WAY overblown. I heard that b/f seeing it and didn't notice it once.

Did the grandparents stay in bed all of the time like in the first movie?

We took our 3 year old to see it. The scariest part to him was the preview for King Kong.

He was pretty bored the first 30 minutes or so, until they finally got into the factory. Once that happened, he was hooked.

funny, but when they entered the part of the factory with all the candy landscape, river, etc you could audibly hear the children in the threatre "oooo-ing and awww-ing." pretty funny.

...and when Charlie finally found the golden ticket and started running home, our whole theater burst into applause!

I liked that Charlie is such a good little boy. When he chose staying with him family over taking over the factory, my eyes watered up a little.

At the credits at the end of the movie, everyone in my theater started clapping.

I think that is funny when people do that.
