You must not watch much TV. It's on all the time on TNT. It's on Showtime right now.

It is pretty reasonable on DVD, I bought one for around $10 bucks a few years ago and I believe they released an expanded version sometime last year, it is probably more though.

And that movie is greatness. The biggest ripoff in Oscar history was the year this movie was up and Morgan Freeman didn't get best supporting Actor.

Actually, that was when Shakespeare in Love (a good movie, but still) beat Saving Private Ryan for best picture.

Shawshank would have swept the Oscars in most other years. That year, however, it had to compete with Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction.

Yes, however they gave the best supporting Oscar that year to Martin Landau for Ed Wood, which was basically a sentimental handout award to an insolent actor of average talent.

And I must say I didn't think Ed Wood was that great of a movie. I think it is generally considered one of Tim Burton's best, I would disagree on that as well.

Above average but overrated. For it to be top 5 on IMDB (I think it still is) is beyond absurd.

Shawshank is one of the best movies I've seen. It's one of the few movies I've wanted to see again and again.

This is one of the best movies I've seen. It comes on tv all the timne which is fine with me. Also, it has many quotable lines.

Its surprisingly faithful to the Steven King novella, which probably explains why it is so good.

Okay I checked....number two on IMDB, which is totally crazy.

Better than both Godfathers? The three LOTRs? Better than Citizen Kane (overrated perhaps but groundbreaking and certainly influential)? Better than Casablanca?

No. It's barely in the top 5 films of the 1990s - which were Goodfellas, Fight Club, Memento (bubble), Schlinder's List, Seven, Saving Private Ryan, Abre los ojos (bubble) and Braveheart.

If someone really wanted to know, such as the lurkers of Texags who scan for my name when they open a thread, my top five would likely be the first five listed above.

Fans of O'Brien should love it or they are not fans. He's certainly not for everyone - and I don't mean to sound snooty - his is a niche market.

The attention to detail was fantastic. The story was good and faithful to - several squeezed together - the books. I like Crowe as an actor, and he fit Jack perfectly.

One interesting trivia bit - it's the only major motion picture in recent history to not have a single female speaking role. A woman is on screen for less than 10 seconds total in the whole film.

Redstone, I wasn't trying to knock your picks... I actually know quite a few people who loved that movie. I was VERY disappointed in it, since I usually love historical films. Good call on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. That is a great flick!

I was wondering what I liked about that movie. I couldn't put my finger on it.
