1. Which one is a bigger star globally?

2. Which one do you like better?

1. Willie
2. Willie

Why compare them, though? They do completely different things.

It's very important to me.

Not really. It was a conversation (argument) that came up late at night after too many beers, and now I'm curious about what the experts on Texags think.

my friend met and talked to jimmy buffett in a bar in wilmington, NC. he was hitting on her and he was apparently griping about the younger generation not liking him. she said it was sad.

even if jimmy buffett was the only one in this survey/poll, my vote would still go to the red-headed stranger.

Great Thread!

You should start one on the general board about which is better, Apples or Oranges.

Jimmy Buffett is a mere crack in the edifice that is American music.

While Willie Nelson is at least a supporting pillar.

Both are entertaining with Buffett being worth a listen and Willie being a living legend.

Saying these two artists are as different as apples and oranges is accurate, except that even making such a comparison implies that they are in some way comparable.

I really like Jimmy Buffett, but he's like Kinky Friedman with a few more career breaks.

Willie is the bigger star

I like Jimmy Buffet better - I prefer drunkis to stoners

Willie's sold out and made some of the worst music ever over the past 15 years, but that doesn't change the fact that his work over the 40 years preceeding this last 15 yr turdfest was full of brilliance. He's a true American legend.
Such a shame that for a few dollars he will cut a crappy duest with any 2bit has been (toby keith and pat green for example).

I think Jimmy Buffet may appeal to more people because some people immediately write off Willie as country.

That said, I'm a Willie fan.

It's been a long time. Long time.

Willie's the better-known, bigger star.

Most people don't even spell Jimmy Buffett's name correctly.

It's like Tony Bennett, just one "B" and both the other two consonants are doubled.

I don't know...who's bigger, Frank Sinatra or Bobby Darrin?

In other words, who might your kids be playing in 30 years?

Very good then. Its settled - Willie is superior in every way. I meant no offense to anyone by comparing The Legendary Willie to a white trash hack like Jimmy Buffett.

The comparison I draw is that both rose to stardom in the mid 70s playing their unique brands of laid back music that appeals to Bubbas and Rockers (yes, I know Willie wrote "Crazy" and "Hello Walls" in the 60s). Both names are still regular fixtures in articles about top country artists, and both still have huge followings (Parrotheads, anyone?). Buffet has had higher grossing tours in the last several years, written several books, and has a very profitable restaurant chain with locations worldwide, and Willie starred in Honeysuckle Rose among other great films.

Aust Ag - "Changes in Lattitudes, Changes in Attitudes" came out 28 years ago. I'm still listening, but in 2 more years I'm sure it will have been a passing fad like Bobby Darin. Are you going to go see the Biopic on Bobby Darin starring academy award winner Kevin Spacey, by the way?

Fast Fred - sorry about the speling error.

That's cool, you got Bobby Darin right.

And there's James Darren, who's the movie star that played "Moondoogie" to Bobby's wife Sandra Dee's "Gidget," to add to the confusion.
