Which do you like better? I prefer backdraft myself.

I thought both films had comparably realistic firefighting action.

But I didn't think the rest of "Ladder 49" made a very interesting movie.

I was glad that I waited for the rental version.

I thought that "Backdraft" was OK, but nothing especially entertaining.

I saw it in a theater.

I could have done without seeing either movie, but, if I were forced to watch one of them again or make a viewing recommendation, I guess I would pick "Backdraft."

I wonder which one a real fireman would pick?

Haven't seen Ladder 49.

Backdraft was a passable movie.

Firefighting scenes were less than realistic because of almost complete lack of smoke. (According to my dad, 30+ years as firefighter). Of course, you can't film a movie through clouds of smoke...so that's not an easily rectified problem.

havent seen Ladder 49 yet, but Backdraft was a joke in terms of "real" firefighting

Ladder 49 was more of a life in the day of kind of movie whereas Backdraft was a thriller.

Both are renters and entertaining. Nothing special. I would go with Backdraft.
