I mildly liked Heist, and am not that familiar with David Mamet, so I didn't have very high hopes for this one, given Hollywood's abysmal run of recent political thrillers/dramas/satires (Contender - sucked a lot, Bulworth - sucked quite a bit, Primary Colors - sucked but watchable, Wag the Dog - sucked slightly less, M. Candidate, ect ect.) but ended up liking it.

Anyone else see it? Sort of slipped through the cracks. Val Kilmer was very good; it also has one of my favorite actors, William H. Macy. (And Kilmer's commentary, perhaps predictably, was terrible.) As for Mamet's reputation for "sparkling" dialogue (DVD case) - it is different, to say the least. Seems contrived and awkward, but fairly frequently clever.

I thought this was excellent, clever, well-written and well-acted.

Seen The Spanish Prisoner? You'd probably like it if you liked Spartan. Same guy did it.

Are you talking about "Heist" with DeVito and Hackman? Man that was a stinking pile of ish of a movie.
