That's a stretch. He certainly can look the part, but, knowing his politics, will he be accepted?

He's a squishy Republican.

Essentially he is a Guliani republican on the shown that could win all 50 states.

Though it wasn't identified as a particular partisanship, he played a very pro defense role in the Wesley Snipes movie, Murder at 1600. He actually did fairly well.

The guy is a terrific actor.

Alda is pretty watchable, unlike Sheen (and his character) IMO. I liked the show okay before, but watch every week now.

Liberals' favorite move is to play the "conservative" on t.v./ in film so they can paint the character their way.
Examples:
Richard Dreyfus as "evil" senator Bob Rumson,
James Brolin as Ronald Reagan !?!?

Brolin (Streisand's husband for those who don't know) stated that he was "intrigued" by the role after his personal research revealed that "Reagan was a man who apparently never really wanted to BE the president!"
