It's getting quite annoying that I keep liking movies that people predict I will like.

So that's it. I liked it. And with this glass of wine in my hand, I felt I should share.

And every time they played song they played at the beginning, starting with "Never Tear Us Apart", I kept thinking, "This soundtrack is awesome!" Then I remembered that it was supposed to take place in 88, which was a huge music time for me. Again, that's the wine sharing.

Yep, great movie. Have the netflix rental of the new directors cut in my living room right now. Hopefully I'll be able to see it soon.

The Director's Cut is not worth the time. It's sort of like the Amadeus DC (a far superior film, though DD is impressive for a young, first-time director) - unnecessary, longer not being better.

The fun of DD was figuring out the points at which the alternate universe (tangent) was on screen, what time travel meant, ect. It was ambiguous. Now Kelly wants to hit us over the head with his point of view, which is fine, its his movie, only he said in interviews (until this release) the audience should be arguing and thinking about it. That haziness is gone, and the movie is less for it.

The music in the non directors cut is better.

Darko is not a bad film, and a very impressive debut for a guy in his mid-20's. It's just seems pretty overpraised - one of the indie hits thats fun and forgettable, but cool to like, ie Sideways. Thats fine, but my badly made point was that the hype is too much, and Kelly has bought into it pretty heavily with a DC that diminishes the film, and offers nothing new and substantial.

This film, like Nap. Dyn, is one that most people either love or hate. I think it's a great film.

I have fun arguing with friends about whose personal theory of the idea behind the film is the most accurate or fits the most effectively.

I know there are websites that explain what the producer/director had in mind, but I don't care. It's more fun to speculate what's behind the curtain, than have someone tell me.

I've had craps that are better than some of those movies you've listed. I don't know why you are trying to be a movie snob. I've seen most of the movies you've listed and for the most part, all are very good and very enjoyable. Why you seem to have a problem with me or anyone else saying it's our favorite movie, is beyond me. It is my favorite movie. I never said it was the best movie ever put on film. It is the movie I enjoy the most and can and have watched it over and over and over.

After the first time, I was like WTF? But I was so intrigued by it all(plus, the music kicked ass), that I watched it again. And again. then with the commentary from the actors and director. It wasn't until about the 6th time that I went online and read up on some of the interpretations that were out there.

I make a point not to got look into movies that much. To just have my own interpretation. Is that weird?

As for comparing Donnie Darko to Sideways. Apples and organges. Apples and rotten oranges. But hey, you're entitled to your own opinion.

Watched the DC tonight and liked some of the additions, but not the cheesey computer inlay graphics. I've heard his explanation was the make the movie more "sci-fi" but he could have done without those transitions. This version also feels much less intellectual as it pretty much gives away a lot of the personal interpretation of what's going on. Bottom line, if you're recommending the movie to someone who hasn't seen it before and wants to get the full effect, recommend the original version.
