Tracy Lawrence and Neal Mccoy? I am a bit disappointed. Atleast they still have Cross and Pat!

Thinking Pat Green is good entertainment discredits anything you say about music from now on (or at least until you repent).

Chilifest isn't just about the music. It's about the atmosphere. If you've been and say you have a terrible time, either you're pretty dorky and have no friends or something tragic happened (like getting arrested). Going on Friday night is the best time!

After being there last year, I can honestly say that most people there couldn't give a **** about the music and are just there to get wasted and/or have a good time.

I know that is what I'm going to do there because I simply hate country music.

I'm pretty disappointed about Pat Green, Tracy Lawrence, and Neal McCoy too, but I wasn't thrilled about Sammy Kershaw or Pat Green last year and I still had a great time.

I went last year with some of my Ag buddies. Don't even remember the music. The stage is away from the teams anyway, and by the time the headliners play nobody cares.

Friday night is what it is all about. If you do that right, you shouldn't have the energy to stick around for Neal and Tracy.

They consistently choose a few performers who are throwbacks or with Texas ties. In the past this has included, Mark Chestnutt, Clay Walker, Jerry Jeff, Willie, George etc. Tracy Lawrence and McCoy fit the category.

Pat Green has been a mainstay at Chilifest and his shows are consistent crowd pleasers, to the dismay of the haters.

What Chilifest needs is some female singing talent! Faith Hill, Shania etc!!

See everyone out there.

All the female talent is in the crowd.

They need to get Ashley Simpson at Chilifest.

Seriously, I always thought Chilifest would be much better if they had one or two rock acts, kind of like Bocktoberfest. Neal McChode and Tracy Lawrence are has-beens. Maybe the old-timers would like to hear them, but how many old-timers really go to Chilifest?

As a former Chilifest volunteer, I resent that statement!!!!!!!!!!

Whats wrong with Lawrence, McCoy, and Green? I would see that show.

Sure, its not A-list, but Chilifest and rural Texas ain't exactly downtown Nashville.

You guys have to remember, scheduling gets to be a problem this time of year. Not to mention, Chilifest is typically an added date for the headliner because it typically conflicts with their regular tours, and the goal is to not bring the same headliner in every year. The undercard is always repetative, good music that everyone has always loved. But the headliner is always a problem at Chili.

The bands are booked 9 months in advance. Availability is not the problem. Usually it's price.

I don't think anyone would mind staring at Faith Hill for an hour! It will be hard to ever top Willie though.

Zone, I understand how the booking process works, let's just say I was involved in the process. The bands are targeted before the headliner from the previous year has even gotten on the stage. No, price is not the problem. Availability is the problem.

Country music starts thier tours usually around February. These tours are booked way in advance, and their target audience is arenas. Not to mention, the Rodeo Houston happens the month before, which is a tour stop on every artist on the bill. Very hard to get an artist to come back when they just played 90 miles southeast of College Station two weeks earlier, not to mention, the Rodeo tries to focus on Texas Country as well. Like I said, the undercard is not usually hard to book, they are usually up and comming artist that are willing to play anywhere at anytime becuase they don't have a structured tour. Headliners are completely different.

Sure, I wouldn't mind staring at Faith Hill either. Listening to her is a different story....

They need to bring Jerry Jeff back again.

I am still involved. Price and performer are the biggest obstacles.

I agree on Jerry Jeff. They need to get him back one more time before he is gone.

I'm not a big Tracy Lawrence fan, but I kind of like Neil McCoy. Plus, Jack Ingram is good and is a fresh face for Chilifest.

NM. No need to talk about the workings of Chili publically. If you want to know, volunteer.

I'm really curious as to how the budget of Chilifest plays into who gets booked into what spots.

mts- You are right on the huge names and the undercard. Probably not going to get that type of talent (George Strait) for the headliner and the undercard prices are consistent. But, Willie was a huge draw and it paid off. Merle Haggard and George Jones were big names/has beens.

But even guys like Dwight Yoakum (sp?) have had too big of price tags (heads/egos ) to be feasible.

As I stated above- I think Tracy L. and Neil Mc. are consistent to the history of CF (Clay Walker, Chestnutt, John Connelly, Jerry Jeff, etc)

Yea, we were defining it differently. Should have stated we've always tried to get the best bang for the buck. All good.

Curious---don't you own a company that makes tailgating products?

i can't believe no one has said anything about merle haggard being called a has been. that pretty much rules out any credibility that you may have had concerning country music.

Merel Haggard is great. But he's old, doesn't do a great show anymore and can't sing like he used to= has been.

Merle Haggard is not a has-been. Sure his voice doesn't sound as good as it used to but legends can never become has-beens. That's like saying Elvis is a has-been because he was fat and pilled-up for his last few years.

Doug Supernaw is an example of a has-been.

BTW, how you been Matt?
