Is there anything I can listen to that remotely compares to these guys. Other then Mars Volta and Sparta?
NICE!

ATDI is nothing like Mars Volta, maybe a litle bit like Sparta.

Sorry no recommendations from my part.

sparta is closer to ATDI musically. i love ATDI, but i don't like the mars volta. so take that however. as far as similar bands, ATDI were pretty unique, but here are a few that you may like:

cursive
desaparecidos
fugazi
hot water music
jawbreaker
mewithoutYou
minus the bear
pretty girls make graves
refused
texas is the reason

eld02's recommendations are good. Start with the top of the list and work your way down.

... but if you do that, be sure to bump Texas Is The Reason several slots higher. I couldn't get enough of that album when I was a freshman at TAMU.

texas is the reason is indeed awesome. that list is more alphabetical than preferential, but i'd definitely start with cursive, as i feel they're probably the closest to ATDI out of that list.

eld02 gave a pretty good list (except I'm not familiar with desaparecidos.)
Fugazi is probably my favorite band of all time, but I'm not sure they sound that much like ATDI.

Other bands you might like:

Interpol (not necessarily my favorite, but they remind me of ATDI sometimes)
Unwound (broke up a few years ago, but one of my favorites)
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead (nationally-known Austin band)
Shellac (another now-defunct band, but pretty solid)

...trail of dead are pretty sweet. also, interpol reminds you of ATDI at times? i'm not saying you're wrong, i think it's interesting to hear what different music sounds like to different people. they've always struck me as a joy division ripoff. i like 'em though.

EDIT: i forgot to put in a word about desaparecidos. if you're familiar with bright eyes, it's conor's other band. they don't sound anything like bright eyes though. it's really rockin', post-punk sort of stuff.

The Desapareciedos' album probably sounds the most like ATDI of all the albums listed. Or maybe Cursive's last album.

I don't recommend . . .Trail of the Dead. Eveything else listed is at worst okay.

Yeah, I know it's kind of a stretch, but occasionally they do remind me of ATDI. I can't really say that they sound a lot like ATDI, but that's why I said "the remind me of," rather than "they sound like." Plus, I'm not much of an Interpol fan, but most of my friends who actually listened to ATDI also like Interpol for whatever reason.

EDIT: Thanks, I'll check out desaparecidos sometime.

Fugazi is a hell of a lot better than ok. You're in the distinct minority on that one.

What Trail of Dead have you heard? I like their early stuff (first two full-lengths), but more recently they've been kind of hit-and-miss in my book. Source Tags & Codes was (mostly) excellent. I hated their last EP, though. And the new record has some great moments, but is mostly mediocre IMHO.

tool, I think you misread; "at worst" meaning that at the bare minimum the bands are okay.

I've heard everything . . .trail of the dead has done. Outside of a couple decent songs, I think they suck. Post rock/dream pop, whatever you want to call it, is my favorite genre of music. And they are the worst band at it IMHO.

I am a big fan of Interpol and just recently got a And You Will Know Us by.... CD but have not listened to it all that much yet. I will have to give Desaparecidos a try, I have a few Bright Eyes CD's too.

My mistake.

I didn't sleep last night and just finished a law school final and a long workout. I think my brain has shut down for a while.

i like ...trail of dead. haven't heard the new album. i think they were kind of a victim of the hype, seeing as source tags and codes was pretty much universally lauded as a landmark album. i'm not sure if i'd go that far, but i do enjoy them. however, fugazi, hot water music, and desaparecidos are probably my favorites off that list. pretty girls make graves are really growing on me as well.

I've been a fan since I saw them at Emo's sometime in 2002. Great live band!

Since we're listing favs of the list, I'll vote for Jawbreaker. I remember getting Dear You and a Jawbox CD from Marooned Records. Ah, the good 'ol days.

For those Texas... fans check out New End Original, there's just one LP. It's Texas... and Jonah from onelinedrawing. Great album.

I think Our Lady Peace sort of sounds like them.
