Can't go wrong w/any Thievery Corp. Check out www.cdbaby.com they have a ton of great trip hop/chill bands and very cheap CD's. Check out Brahm, it's a VERY good CD.

It's a guilty pleasure for me, but I freaking love Zero 7's Simple Things. Wow, I could listen to "Destiny" till my ears bled.

Also have dug some Boards of Canada and Massive Attack. OK I feel better having gotten that off my chest.

I highly, highly recommend Kruder & Dorfmeister's DJ Kicks record. It dabbles in both downtempo and d&b, but it's nothing short of phenomenal. You can snag a used copy on Amazon for <$9 or from http://www.allofmp3.com for less than that.

Carboot Soul by Nightmares On Wax is worth it for the first track ( "Les Nuits" ) alone.

If you're into independent artists, A Few Things To Hear Before We All Blow Up by Williamson is a beautiful record, and you can name your price for it: http://magnatune.com/artists/williamson/

I think I've got every Thievery Corporation album out and The Outernational Sound is probably their best... if you like it, check out The Mirror Conspiracy.

Yeah I suppose that Scandanavian metal counts as Triphop lol.

I saw Arch Enemy in Nov 2003 with Slayer, Hatebreed and Skinlab in Austin, it was a pretty good show. I of course went to see Slayer, as I havent missed a Slayer tour since er .. 90?

archive - most ppl like the 2nd album, but i liked the female singer on the first album better

smoke city - mainly the first album....2nd album is great, but a bit of a different genre

canidas - hard to find, but the most depressing stuff i've ever listened to

violet indiana - singer from mono's other band

amstrong - have only heard a couple of things, but very relaxing

the last album by bowery electric - lushlife i think

crustation - pretty cookie cutter trip hop

fila brazilia - more of the dj kicks late night stuff

laika - some great songs and some not so great songs, singer can get on my nerves

mandalay - another generic cookie cutter band, but still nice

market - very original sounding ny band that isn't around anymore

pelican city - mostly instrumental stuff, can find it on mp3.com

some of puracane's stuff - big day is a great song....reminds me of what old sneaker pimps would've sounded like with a less annoying singer

silverman - all over the map for me

smith & mighty - halfway b/w the dj kicks type stuff and thievery corp

some of soulstice & supreme beings of leisure - gets a bit too "diva" at times

suvome - unique sound, pretty dark, not so easy to find. unreal america is fantastic

Air - Moon Safari
Kruder & Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions
Tosca - Suzuki

Flunk's cover of Blue Monday is pure sweetness. Listening to their 'For Sleepyheads Only' album is almost like smoking a joint through your speakers.

Alot of these are more noise pop, than trip-hop.

Morcheeba - Who Can You Trust - pretty much a Portishead rip-off, but still a good album. Their later albums were much more poppy.

And Deltron nailed it with Entroducing.

I didn't even know this type of music was call trip hop. The only time I ever heard that phrase was in High Fidelity when Jack Black lists it as one of the genres they carry while talking to Lenny Kravitz's ex-girl.

The Garden State Soundtrack introduced me to Zero7 and Thievery Corporation, and I really dig them. I got a couple of their CDs from iTunes. I'll have to check out the others mentioned.

Listen to the Groove Salad stream. Most of those artists are in the down-tempo genre.

Thievery Corporation's "Richest Man in Babylon" is an excellent album.

I also picked up the recent UNKLE album and it's pretty good too.

The Ninja Tune record label has a lot of good artists too.

Saint Etienne is pretty good along with some of the others that have been mentioned. I Am The World Trade Center has shown promise as well.

New Theivery Corporation album is very good. They have it on allofmp3.com as well.

I liked thier Mirror Conspiracy album better though, I think it had more stand out tracks.

Endtroducing is in my top 10 favorite albums of any genre. It's incredible. It may take 3 or 4 listens to truly enjoy.

It's been awhile since I found some good stuff in this genre, I'm definately going to check ot some of these sugestions.

Don't forget Goldfrapp. Or, just take the Star Trek theme and mix it with the James Bond theme, and you'll be pretty close.
