Just got out. I felt it was more creepy thriller than horror. I think the characters in the movie felt like they were in a horror, but I never really felt second hand scared like I do with true horror movies. I felt they did a good job updating the story for current times. The effects were incredible, best part of the movie.

On the fence about seeing this one. If it wasn't tied to a well-known, beloved (i assume, at least to some degree) IP would you have thought it was a good movie?

If this was just about an actor who got cut up, received an experimental drug, had weird side effects, then went on a revenge rampage, it would still be a good movie. Besides the city names there's really nothing DC about it tbh

What's the difference between a thriller and a horror. MJ's famous video/song about the horror genre was called Thriller.

I think that since the subject of the horror is the main character and we see the movie through his POV, it isn't as scary as a regular horror. We know where he is most of the time. It is like if a Freddy or Jason movie was seen through their POV, you can see where the other people would be scared, but you the audience not so much. If that makes sense

Follow up to this question now that I'm sitting at my mom's house. John Wick is a thriller, where the MC is the one doing the killing. The bad guys get scared, but the audience doesn't, but it is a thrilling movie. Same with Taken, etc. Horror movies are typically seen through the eyes of potential victims, so we get scared with them if it is done well. Clayface has elements of body horror, and since he's not a typical regular guy there is some added scariness for the victims when he does his face/body changing stuff, but me in the audience didn't get scared with them.

More villain origin story than pure anti-hero, but yes it is DC's Clayface

I thought it was solid. Much more in line with The Batman universe than the Gunn universe.

It's a Bildungsroman of a comic book character movie masquerading as a body horror film. Not meant as a traditional horror film.

I now really want a Freddy or Jason movie from his POV. Maybe do a "his side of the story" thing. Yes please

I haven't watched it yet, but isn't that the general gist for Crystal Lake?

When he uses the scissors to cut out his eyes…that's just too much for me. It's in the preview so not a spoiler.

The scene is even more stressful in the movie
