Dies at 93. What a great career, of course my favorite role was as Capt. Dallas in Alien.

Damn.

Summer of 79, I remember thinking that the guy who was Captain Dallas in Alien was also the step dad in The Amityville Horror due simply to the beard.

RIP Captain Dallas

One of my all time favorite lines in my favorite movie…

Maverick, you'll get your RIO when you get to the ship, and if you don't, give me a call. I'll fly with you.

Once I knew he was from Cheers, I started noticing him in all kinds of old TV shows that were still in syndication, like Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

I wonder if some of those TV show appearances for old actors were part of the studio contract system, where they could be called up for an episode appearance.

He was incredibly funny in Steel Magnolias.

Such a great character in so many movies.

Liked him in all of the above, plus MASH. He was on an old episode of Bonanza where he was a creepy assassin tracking Little Joe through the desert IIRC.

I always thought he would have made a good Dave Robicheaux, if you are familiar with the books.

I was thinking about giving it a rewatch, haven't seen it in years and was thinking about it the other day.

And as a kid I remember watching Top Gun and thinking he was the coolest person on the planet. We lost a great.

Nobody's going to mention his odd turn in Poison Ivy with Drew Barrymore? I know you all saw it.

Uh, no.

Yaphet Kotto's Parker was the last to die in the movie, while Tom Skerritt's Dallas was third to die. Other than that, the order is actually correct.

John Hurt
Harry Dean Stanton
Ian Holm
Yaphet Kotto
Tom Skerritt

There was actually another male member of the cast - Bolaji Badejo, who was the full-grown alien. His character was the actual last to die in the movie, but in life, the actor actually passed in the early 90s.

Dallas being the third victim is one of the movie's biggest strengths, in that everyone thought he would be the "hero" who would ultimately defeat the monster.
