Wife and I just got out of the theater. Was decently full and the whole place was dead silent once the credits rolled. My wife and I just sat there both wiping the tears from our eyes.
This is a film that knows exactly what it is…tells its story in an amazing way…and even though I thought I knew how it would end, I was sorta wrong (IYKYK) and loved what they did with the ending.
So glad I saw this.
Spoiler take below:
Did not expect at all for it to end where the dog lives and the owner dies…normally it's the other way around. But man was that done incredibly well. The way the camera was framing the shot of Odins face while Pitt is saying his final goodbye, it's in that moment you realize that Odin was the main character this whole time and this was his story. Loved how they did that!
And there was a great hint that Pitts character was about to bite the dust…when he finally reaches the top of the hill he and Odin were climbing he inverts his walking stick/spear that he's held up the entire movie and throws it knife down into the ground…it's at that moment where you realize, "crap it's him that's not going to make it."
Also, liked that when the lady that sees Odin is driving up you see two stickers on her back window both of bears…kinda neat how there's a scene earlier where Odin is able to stare down a bear and then at the end his new master has two bear stickers on the back of her truck.
And the wolf attack scene. Man that was done well. Was basically doing little fist pumps in my seat when he was finally stabbing the crap out of them.
Go see this movie!
