Ah, gotcha, and I completely agree with you then. You're summary of the book's characters is pretty dead-on if I remember correctly. Man, I need to reread it.

I suppose it's possible to recreate it, but it will be a challenge and if it falls short, it will always be criticized as a failure to the original. That is an incredibly risky investment.

With that's said, I do like remakes such as 310 to Yuma, magnificent seven, and true grit so I'll stay optimistic

I agree with all of the above. Every movie adaptation would be better if they had 6 hours to tell the story, though.
