I love the movies, and they were a big part of my childhood.
I go back and forth on I am excited that this series exists to expand upon the stories and hopefully be able to show them in a way the movies were unable to do, but also it's still so hard to separate the cast of the movies from this, because they nailed them so well in the movies.
Overall I think this looks well done. The color and the visuals give me hope, and nothing looks bad or overly concerning from the snippets we've seen so far(except I'm sorry I can't get over Snape, he is just jarring. I'm sure I will though, because he did do a good job in the trailer embodying snape ).

The movies back then left so much to be desired for me that I have much less issue with this. Lithgow as Dumbledore might be the best of the three from these couple of scenes.
I think the bridge scene is Lily & James Potter.

No I agree. The movies leave out so much and I think every time I watch them now I come away liking them less and less. But the actors/actresses were so spot on it's hard to not think of them and compare

I just got caught up watching all of the HP films since I never watched them growing up. It was okay, not much into fantasy in general but I can understand how popular the franchise is for other people. I do appreciate though that they kept "Philosopher's Stone" in the title (and I also assume in the show story itself) instead of trying to dumb it down for the American audience as they did with the movies with the "Sorcerer's Stone" instead.
I wonder if anyone from the original movies will make a surprise cameo.

The series has an opportunity to bring to life lots of little beautiful moments that the movies veered off from. I'm hopeful they can pull it off. Otherwise, I'm just here for the Black Snape meltdowns.

I liked the one line read we got from him on the trailer
Forget the Black Snape meltdowns (for now), an interesting thought I heard in a reaction video today was how there are a couple of scenes in the trailer indicating the show will, at times, be told from perspectives other than Harry. The movies were told almost exclusively from his perspective (if I remember correctly), but in this trailer we see Ron getting his invitation to Hogwarts in the mail well before he meets Harry, and we see Hermione on the train before she meets Harry and Ron. It'll be interesting to see if that shifts the tone of the story.

Outside of the first 3 movies, I think they are terrible adaptations. The most redeemable qualities from the movies are the adult actors. Literally some of the most iconic british actors of the time.
I'm sure some will groan about beating a dead horse, but I would be SO stoked about this if not for the Snape casting. Literally the dumbest casting move of the last 20 years, and that includes a trans Greek soldier.
However, getting a chance to see them actually flesh out these stories from the books is too intriguing for me to avoid. Giving us more time in the classrooms, seemingly behind the scenes conversations with the teachers, and giving us a chance to see these friendships breathe and grow is something I can't help but want to see.
I will say, the Hermione actor is already better than Emma Watson, so that's a plus.
The only adult casting that I'm excited for is John Lithgow as Dumbledore. The *******ization of the Dumbledore/Harry scenes in the movies is my #1 criticism and reason for why they are trash, in the later installments. If these two actors can nail those scenes, then I would be happy.

Did you read the books? If not, then you really don't know much about Harry Potter. The movies completely shat all over the books, starting at movie 4. The movies are lifeless magical action movies.

I was also excited to see that. But I'm one who thinks the actual character of Harry Potter kind of sucks, most of the time. The side characters were always so much more interesting.
I agree the Hermione actress fits a lot better into the misfit role that the book portrays her as.
Yeah, each movie got further and further away from the books. So, if the show stays truer to the books it could be fantastic.
I dont hate the movies, but I thought the big problem they ran into as it went along was most of.those books really needed 2 movies (maybe even 3 for the last few). So they had to cut a lot when adapting it.
In theory a series gives them plenty time to tell the story well.

Not supporting a JK Rowling product because of the left is a hilarious stance to take.
The movies are great, they just leave stuff out… like nearly every book to screen adaptation.

Sure, but that's basically every book adaptation. The fact is the movie adaptations for Harry Potter intentionally changed things and left out key elements to make magical action movies.
Why remove the only action scene from The Half-Blood Prince and add one that makes no sense? The core plot to the entire series was neutered and given less than several minutes of dialogue, in the Order of the Phoenix.
The movies being shells of the books had NOTHING to do with time available within the medium and everything to do with them poorly adapting the books.
Adult casting is always going to feel off in this to me other than dumbledore I think will be better.
You just can't outdo the casting in the movies imo.

I hope it's great, and I'm sure the audience will be there, but the big question is Why? Almost every scene had a direct equivalent in the movies, inviting direct comparisons. If it doesn't offer something new, what's the point? Will the cover be better than the original?

The whole point is that they're going to be covering lots of smaller stories that made the books immensely popular and that the movies largely shat the bed on.

JK Rowling maintains pretty tight control over all Harry Potter properties. I would expect she had to sign off on all scripts.
The kids all look to be spot on. The one little kid, who I assume is Neville, looked spot on. The adults looked good too, but, man, it is going to be really hard to not expect the original actors. Every single adult role was so perfectly nailed in the original, I just can't see how they do it again.
I feel like this adaptation will have better magic. Besides the special effects being better now days, the originals just devolved into shooting red and green sparks at each other. Already, in the trailer it looks like there is going to be some new stuff we haven't seen (the bridge, and it looked like someone animated the Gryffindor rug).

I agree, and based off that one line, be could be good. It will be interesting to see how they play it as the show goes on. Your probably fine the first season, but when you get to James hanging Snape from a tree, you're going to need to change it or risk a very different scene. Also, it can quickly become racist if Harry and Ron are always blaming the black guy. I'm sure a good writer can figure something out though.
I still want Snape to go "angry black guy" when someone says he's obsessed with the Dark Arts.
Alan Rickman will always be Snape in my mind. Always.
