Never had HBO, so watched all 5 seasons in a little over a week. LOVED IT!

So help me pick my next show to binge. I've never watched Game of Thrones, so that's a possibility. but I loved Mad Men so much I'd like to watch another show like that.

Deadwood and Justified.
Different settings and storyline, but dialogue heavy ang great acting

Hell yeah. My favorite show of all time, and it's not even close.

But just FYI, it's SEVEN seasons. Ha, was five a typo or did you somehow miss the final two seasons? Just making sure. Also, season seven was split into two halves of seven episodes each, over two consecutive years, so the show overall released more like eight seasons. It went...

If you want to stay in '60s New York, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon is phenomenal. More of a comedy (though there are plenty of dramatic elements), and a lot more language, but man it's so incredibly well done, and feels even "bigger" than Mad Men in a lot of ways.

I watched mad men on its initial run years ago. I always really liked it, Although I wasn't crazy about the ending, I know everyone else loved it, but I was just kind of meh. I do remember that Coke commercial being on when I was really little though.

I thought the episode with Lane going out was phenomenal.

you have to watch Game of Thrones. I had not watched it yet and a guy used to work with would talk about it all the time. He had read all the books as well. They were in between seasons five and six at the time so I started watching it one night after I came home from work and ended up watching all five seasons, 50 episodes in 13 days. And this was before I retired. I was working full-time I was going to Aggie baseball games and was pretty busy with life and work. I would watch till like two in the morning and then get up and go to work. It was nuts.

And I'm one of the few that had no problems with the way it ended. I won't go into any spoilers, but most people didn't like it. I thought it was showing that direction the entire way.

It is really good. I completely rewatched the entire series about a year ago and I caught so much more the second time than I did the first since I have not read the books. I understood everything the first time, but I really got a lot of the nuance the second time.

Yes 7 seasons. My bad. And I too was dissatisfied with the finale. But they did such a good job of props - soda cans from my youth, the alcohol my dad used to drink, the cigarettes.

And even little behavioral things. They're on a picnic and Birdie just dumps all the paper plates and stuff on the ground and walks off. We used to do things **** that because there were people who cleaned the park.

And letting kids drive. My grandmother let me drive the car home starting in about fourth grade.

We're almost finished with the Americans -- which is really good -- but not as good as Bosch.

Really enjoyed Deadwood but be prepared for a big cliffhanger there.

make sure you understand the ending and how it cliff-hangs you with a series finale scene of Don having a light-bulb moment for the greatest Coca-Cola ad of all-time (at the time) for his comeback

I liked the ending. Mostly for the non Don characters. Dons arc could have ended after handing off his keys and Buddy Holly playing. But remembering back during that era of TV and online commentary week to week, it was fun to see him get to the Coca Cola ad.

I've also watched this show 9 or 10 times all the way through and I feel different feelings for various characters every time. Which is the hallmark of a great show imo.

It's top 3 with the Wire and Sopranos. All 3 very different shows. BB is a nat's ass below and then there's a tier of about 10 shows that are awesome. Fargo, The Shield, Deadwood, Justified, etc

GOT is a show that went from new and original, to peak, to absolute suck.

Mad Men never had a bad year. It continued to develop in various ways. There are later seasons that some may not like as much as earlier seasons but they were all very organized with clear goals.

I can't ever remember a time in my life when I had time for 10 hours of tv watching every day.

But I did just complete a Mad Men rewatch earlier this year over the course of about a year. Enjoyed it even more this second time around.

Yes, I had some time off AND was staying in a hotel with nothing to do. And it was right at two weeks as I think about it.

Still a lot of TV.

I have watched Succession.

I started Game Of Thrones last night - we'll see if i can stick with it.

For people of -- let's say -- a certain generation, one of the joys of watching "Mad Men" is seeing all the little things that comprised daily living back then recreated so painstakingly.

Those stand-up ashtrays. The way people lit their cigarettes. The glamour of the mall. The way people dressed. The glasses they drank from. The furniture! I could go on and on but the faithful reproduction of all those details is incredible -- even more so because of the time period and the dramatic changes under way.

I notice something new every time I watch.

The less-recommended AMC show that might scratch the itch is Halt and Catch Fire. Added benefit of being set in Texas.

The four leads are all incredible.

Be aware, there are a LOT of characters and locations so you really have to pay attention but it definitely pays off!

Game of Thrones is my favorite show of all time but I would suggest starting with its spiritual predecessor: Rome. Just did a rewatch and still holds up 20+ years later. It's only 2 seasons, 22 episodes. It got canceled because it was incredibly expensive to produce but they did a great job wrapping it up. Wish HBO would bring it back. It would make a great insert in between whatever GoT project is happening.

One of the coldest lines in history. I love it.

So many great little moments in this show. Lane calling Pete "a grimy little pimp" comes to mind.

And I find this one absolutely hilarious for some reason.

They didn't gloss over the homeless and rampant lawlessness that exists.

Obviously it was fiction so there are plenty of far fetched scenarios.

Succession always felt like it had some of the Mad Men dna running through it. One key part to enjoying each of them is being able to watch when there's no character that's likeable, there's no one to root for, because they're all self-serving and make no bones about it. The first time I tried to watch Mad Men I couldn't get into it because I just didn't like anyone on the show. Succession at least has some comedy running through it, but there's still no one in the family to cheer for other than just hoping each fails more spectacularly than the last.

My second recommendation would be another AMC show, Breaking Bad.

"Rome" was a great show with obviously a fascinating setting.

Lots of great ensemble actors, too. For example, Tobias Menzies, who played a real villain in another easy-to-binge show, "Outlander."

It's too bad HBO pulled the plug so soon.
