Saw the Broadway production of Once maybe 14 years ago. Ordered the movie version of the musical with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova off of Amazon while I was still in NYC and watched it the minute I got home.

Loved Hansard's music. Saw him maybe 3 times in concert.

Sad loss for the music world.

Saw him with Eddie Vedder in 2012 and really enjoy all of their collaborations. Talented dude.

Bet Eddie writes a tribute soon.

Sad to hear this.

Circa 2009 I saw "Once" on a flight to Europe. Randomly selected it, and thought it was so amazing that wound up watching it twice on that leg of the flight. Purchased the DVD and have watched it several times thereafter. At the time, it was arguably the very best indy film I had ever seen. Great soundtrack and chemistry.

This one hurts. i've been sad all day but watching videos and music are making me sadder and sadder.

And I also think about how other musicians are handling it.

Same here. My Facebook feed (as it always picks up what I'm responding to and then vomits everything it can find on that topic onto the page), continues to be full of posts about him.

Don't pretend to know the guy from his music or attending a few concerts, but his public persona was definitely one of a really down-to-earth guy, who was kind to others. And such passionate delivery of his music. At times almost screaming but those notes were still musical.

That we were close in age is also a punch in the gut.

Have "Winning Streak" stuck in my head at the moment.

I gotta admit ... I had no idea who this was until Hey Nav posted that clip from the "The Commitments," one of my favorite movies of all time.

I had no idea he went on to a long career in music.
