Just a joke ppl
A better plan would be to get the Scientologists and Muslims mad at each other. That would be absolute cinema.

Cartels vs Muslims would be better. And by that I mean Hamas and ISIS and Hezbollah and all the rest. The ones in the Middle East and the ones in Africa killing Christians.

Jason Lee left Scientology and a lot of people speculate he moved to Denton to distance himself from the church.

He moved back to LA at some point early this decade and opened a camera shop in Eagle Rock, which he apparently worked at all the time. I read the below article about him back in February, which is really interesting/informative (and mentions Scientology), and sent it to my buddy, who I meet at a bar around the corner from this place every month or so. We had a whole plan to have a few drinks there, then walk around the corner go browse his shop, but mainly to see if he'd actually be there. Unfortunately, he closed his camera shop like a couple weeks later, so we never got the chance...

https://defector.com/a-complimentary-profile-of-jason-lee-that-was-surprisingly-difficult-to-publish

That was a really interesting read.

Seems like he just wants to live the simple life, and he was scared talking about Scientology would bring the goons around. 'that's all I can say' stood out to me.

And assuming that's the case, he needs to learn how to deal with Scientology questions better.

South Park before they went soft would have absolutely done this by now. Like a parody of the 'Godzilla vs. Kong' thing with Cartman or Randy saying, "Let them fight."

Then Butters rides in with an army of Mormons to save the day like Gandalf at Helm's Deep.

I would pay big money for NXIVM vs Scientology in a death match. Sex cult vs science fiction cult……would be awesome!

It's bad enough to join a cult. But to join a nerdy sci-fi cult rather than a sex cult is just embarrassing.

This thread reminded me of the Dead Authors Podcast where Andy Daly plays L Ron Hubbard. It is quite possibly one of the greatest things ever recorded. Just listened to again for the 4th or 5th time and it is hilarious still.

You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.- L. Ron Hubbard

It all grew out of Hubbard writing pretentious scifi, which then lead to him cosplaying as a navy captain and sage. He set up the dianetics ponzi scheme to make money selling the public a bunch of self-improvement psychobabble. When his abusive/criminal practices (especially the way he treated the young people in his "Sea Org") got him in hot water in various law enforcement authorities, he claimed it was religious persecution. They've been claiming it is a religion ever since to dodge taxes and to give it an air of respectability.

This website randomly triggered something in my brain to remember the Scientology episode of South Park. One hillarious part they flash text at the bottom of the screen that says *warning this is what Scientologists actually believe* during some ridiculous scene about xenu.

Went and found the clip in case anyone needs a laugh

Did not realize Mike Rinder who was a key insider that was helping Leah R expose all of the crimes and f'ed up stuff he had witness (and been a part of early on) passed away last year. He was on all of her specials.

Also, L Ron Hubbard's sci-fi was trash. Battlefield Earth was poor to average and then that long series he wrote which I no longer recall was absolutely terrible. DNF'ed that mess way back in the 80s when I would read almost anything.

I don't know why I recall this but I vividly remember when Dianetics came out and it was splashed all over WaldenBooks at my local mall.

Dianetics was everywhere. Including tv commercials.

Lots of people searching for something picked it up because they thought it might be the answer.

Maybe whoever wrote that stupid "The Secret" book 20 years back or so just followed Hubbard's marketing path:

Make a simple but interesting title

Have a good cover

Get some famous or semi-famous people to talk about it

Push the publisher to have Walden Books and Barnes & Noble make a big display at the front entrance.

I miss Walden Books.

Every mall had a Walden at one end and a B. Dalton at the other. One reason I don't go to malls much anymore- no bookstores.

Can't remember if this was real, or if I'm confusing it with Debbie Stovelman (who is happy, healthy and alive), but didn't the lead guy's wife go missing, and everyone assumes she's dead?

Shelly Miscavige? I don't think she's supposed to be dead.

Just held hostage since 2007 by her lunatic husband, David, who is best buddies with Tom Cruise.

What is the real deal with scientology? Are they trying to get to some sort of heaven? Are they trying to bring their god closer? I feel like all these things are somehow connected to sex, usually the older male leaders having sex with a bunch of different women. Is that the goal? Seems like Tom could go out and get laid pretty easily and wouldn't need all this craziness. Is it about money? I watched the south park and that is about as far as I care to research this.

Did the teens stop busting into their buildings? That was funny to me.

To keep the money flowing. It's all about the money.
