One of my daughters and I recently binged Stranger Things and we loved it. It was a good bonding experience. It was nice to be able to watch without too much fear of something popping on the screen we weren't ready for. There was quite a bit of bad language but that's not a deal breaker for me.

We are trying to find a new show that we can watch together. Any suggestions? The new House on the Prarie?

My daughter and I watched the dark crystal Age of Resistance when she was that age. It was a fun "together" watch.

Seconded for One Piece. If you've never seen it, don't let the insane visuals turn you off. It is literally a manga brought to live action. It's insane. It's whacky. The laws of physics don't exist. But ultimately, it's the character work and emotional beats that makes the show so amazing. You will fall in love with all the characters but you have to go into it accepting that you are in for some crazy *****

I recommended it to my 64-yr-old mom and she ended up loving the show and binging both seasons. It is also completely clean with a few curse words throughout. Nothing you would feel uncomfortable watching with your 12yo daughter. It's great for all ages.

Have you tried Skeleton Crew on Disney+? Not sure if that show is a little young for 12 yr olds. Mine is 17 so I've lost my touch for younger age appropriate stuff.

I should add that we also watched the Goosebumps show(s) and we all really enjoyed that too.

I remember watching Games of Thrones with my 12 year old. He says dad, hey wait, isn't Daenerys John Snow's aunt? My response, hey you want a brownie? I think mom made some brownies.

Sure it was awkward but still a great father/son experience.

We are just 4 years away from when Ted Mosby started to tell his kids how he met their mother

S4E15 was just on TV, on second thought maybe wait a few years
Quote:

Barney Stinson: Oh, I am so relieved because the truth is I am as far from married as a human being can possibly be. My history with women would shock and appall you.

Loretta Stinson: Doesn't matter. I still love you.

Barney Stinson: Seriously, you can't imagine the things I've done.

Loretta Stinson: Barney, when you were three, I left you with a babysitter and spent three weeks with Grand Funk Railroad being passed around like a bong.

Barney Stinson: Mommy?

Another vote for One Piece. I'll also add the Percy Jackson series on Disney.

Outside of some cussing and a couple of makeout scenes it wasn't too bad. The "horror" aspect never seemed to frighten her and she routinely wanted to sit down and watch it.

Mine also really enjoyed Stranger Things and wanted something similar to watch together. We started Widow's Bay. A bit more cursing than ST and leans a little more into horror, but he's enjoyed it.

Also One Piece.

Cobra Kai - after the movies of course

Have boys, but aside from ST and CK we did the following from 12 to 14.

24
Resident Alien
Lost
Thinking about ER next but not sure it'll hold their attention. The Pitt would, but that show has a few too many scenes that cross my relatively lenient parental threshold.

I have enjoyed watching the original Wonder Years with my kids as they went through MS and HS. Unlike some of the ones I'll write below, they would not watch without me. These others they would get into and would watch without me.

Some others:
Little House on the Prairie
Smallville
Gilmore Girls
Percy Jackson
Covers Kai

Also, The first 3 seasons of Camp Cretaceous were outstanding if they enjoyed Jurassic Park at all. It's about 6 kids basically surviving the JP experience. Then about midway through season 4, it gets a bit too techy, and worse, they have to start doing relationships. Season 4 ends with a boy-girl relationship that just changes the tone on the show, and then season 5, Netflix adds a lesbian relationship. So we were barely watching going into 5, and those relationship story lines just killed us off.
It was fun when 6 kids are saving each other from raptors and t Rex. It was awkward and boring when two thirds of those kids are now discussing romantic feelings for each other.

I was older than your daughter when it came out, but I loved Alias. That was must-see tv for me in the early 2000s. I've never gone back and re-watched it, so I can't say for sure how it holds up.

My 12 and 10 year olds are currently watching The Goldbergs with me. I'm Gen X so the 80s nostalgia is fantastic and it's been fun explaining it to them.

Ah its not that bad. Some pretty solid kid acting at least. Elijah and Culkin is like clash of the titans.

Good recent Rewatchables podcast on it.
