This movie was awesome. Just got back from the theater. And you guys won't believe this, but Seth Rogen's character is a PARENT!!1!1!

Saw it last night and we both really liked it. Funny and uncomfortable at the same time but it worked.

Enjoyed this one. Rogen was funny as hell. He's typically just kind of annoying to me. Of course, Edward Norton was top notch.

Just gonna sidestep whatever the **** is going on in here. Really nice film, I knew it was going to be a banger just from how Wilde handled the open to the title card. Loved that little moment where despite the bursting tensions between them, Wilde and Rogan's characters took a little sidestep to gleefully share a wtf when they were first told about what's been going on upstairs.

I'm planning on seeing it this weekend, hopefully!

Regarding this thread derailment, I'll remind everyone of the wise words of the late great FAST FRED, "Before the World Wide Web, village idiots stayed in their village."

Saw this with the wife. We both enjoyed it. Nice to have a smart, well written movie that is really funny but also emotionally real and mature.

Saw it tonight.

Don't think I've ever sat in a theater where the entire crowd collectively laughed often *ever*.

And I've seen a good number of great comedies.

Rogen was great, Norton was great.

Absolutely hilarious. And none of these characters ever should have kids- so let's put the cherry on top of that asinine theory.

Did not previously realize this was written by Rashida Jones- the infamous Karen on The Office and Ann on Parks&Rec, who's been banging out good scripts for awhile.

Anyway, great movie.

I saw The Invite last night. This is the most I've laughed in a theater since "The Hangover". Most of the humor comes from awkward conversations and reactions, like the funniest moments in Meet the Parents (I have nipples Greg) or The Office. The actors were fine, but Jason Bateman or Ben Stiller would have fit in perfectly somewhere. There's a lot of those tilt your head after catching someone else's awkward comment moments.

There's some sadness, some happiness, and some sappy sprinkled in. Wait, is this a rom-com?!

I'm glad I knew a little about the movie going in. The whole thing takes place in one apartment over a few hours one night. If you're waiting for them to move to a new scene or set piece or the next day, you're going to be disappointed.

I'll rewatch this a bunch once it's streaming. I'm guessing there's some layered humor that will come out after multiple watches.

You guys, great film. I loved so much about this and this will be a classic worth quoting with friends and family.
The apartment was spectacular.

I'll add spoiler tags just in case
Edward Norton speaking Spanish
If you don't eat the Jamn she might kill herself
Namaste
Pegging jokes
Ring doorbell camera
Olivia Wilde showing off her bathroom while standing in the bath tub
All the awkwardness when they decide to do the do
The name Hawk

I hope to see this again very soon!

Going again on Monday, as it was that hilarious. (And everything's free on AMC AList).

This is great. After the movie, I did a google search for the funny moments from the movie. There are just so many! I don't do a lot of movies twice in the theater, but this one may qualify.

From my hazy memory (comedy spoilers):

The description of Pina's flan and comparing it to heroine and junkies.
Pina calling Rogen's marriage a mess as he lays on the floor, with an injured back his pants down.
Rogen telling the other couple its okay if his current situation "repels" them or something, and their response that they love a contentious environment.
Wilde asking about DP, and Rogen's face after that.
The references to Wilde learning everything from podcasts.
Rogen's face when he see's the Ring Camera video.
"Looks like someone left a food delivery. Ooops. ha ha."
Wilde's face at Rogen when she see's the Ring Camera video.
Turning champagne into sparkling wine and only having half a glass remaining.

Saw this movie last night. What a gem.

The writing, directing, and performances are so good. I was SHOCKED how good Wilde was in the movie. I have never really been a fan of her performances in the past, but she was quite good here. Rogan was also tuned in perfectly. Its like he was dialed down a bit and it worked so well. And of course Norton and Cruz killed it.

Felt like a modern, more humorous Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Movies are so back!

I feel like a good chunk of posters on this board should just stick to watching their PureFlix movies.

I hear you. It's just that this place used to be a reprieve from a lot of that crap. It was mostly normal people with only a few weirdos. Now it feels like it's mostly weirdos with only a few normals.

We got invaded

I didn't realize she was writing scripts, interesting.

Potentially the funniest movie of the decade. The cast, the script, the directing were legit 5*. I can't imagine how this movie could have been better.

A friend who is a big fan of The Office watched a few minutes of The Invite and mentioned that it felt like it was heavily influenced by the Dinner Pary episode from season 4. Michael and Jan are in a heavy argument as everyone shows up to their townhome for an extemely awkward dinner. Rashida Jones, the writer, was not in that episode, but its a pretty safe assumption that she is somewhat familiar with it.

This movie mostly gets referenced to "Virginia Woolf", but Michael Scott deserves some credit.

Good call. I know Lee Eisenberg a little, who wrote The Dinner Party episode. He and Rashida Jones are friends.

(Lee also wrote the "Scott's Tots" episode and went on to co-create Jury Duty on Amazon.)

Saw last night and we both laughed a lot. Didn't quite get the universal praise until the end though.

the neighbors werent real right? The way they just disappeared made me think it was a representation of them just working it out. In that case I really liked it. If that wasn't the case I thought it was just pretty good
