This episode sucked. I don't care to see a love story between a couple of old prunes and Carter being a little brat is getting tiresome.
He tells Beth he wants to be a Cowboy then the next day he wants to be a Deputy. Is he five years old? The next day he will want to be a fireman I guess.

Thank you! I can't quite put my finger on it but this actor is just terrible. He looks like a roided up "Oz" from American Pie and it's distracting as hell. Plus he's just a terrible actor.
I'm already tired of the Carter storyline. Waaahhhhh. I'm an orphan but got taken in by a millionaire and heir to one of the most famous ranching families in the country. I don't wanna go to school, I just wanna work but when I fall off my horse while trying to rope a calf I say screw it and run away.
Besides the other plot holes mentioned….
Carter runs off and buys a sixer and goes and sits in Dwight's spot to stare at the empty cage. All of a sudden the sheriff shows up to have a 2 minute conversation with him. How in the EFF did the sheriff know where Carter was?!?
Of all the ridiculous things (same night trips to and from Dallas from SW Texas, etc.) this bothers me the most.
I think Carter called the sheriff when sheriff was meeting with Joaquin.

Agreed. For someone to have been given everything that Carter has been given by Rip and Beth ... and to be so unaware and ungracious defies logic.
If he wants to leave ... fine. Leave the keys to the truck (you can bet your bottom dollar Rip and Beth bought it for him). He's had no job, so the only money he has is what they've given him.

Finished ep 8 after USA handled business last night.
Joaquin's father, Beulah's old 10 petal bodyguard, is shown in the trailer. I think he's about to come in and cause a sh** storm. Wouldn't be surprised if he's been the one helping out with all the things Austin was divulging to Beth, Rip, and Zachariah at the dinner table.
Also, love that ep 8 had more Texas A&M nuggets.
Just finished the season finale. Overall, I liked the show. Better than Landman in my honest opinion.

I'm getting older and/or Oreana looks better in every episode. How many daisy dukes did she put in her bag? At least six or seven! lol
Positives/negatives:
1. love that Mr. Barbacoa (cow cheek bone Rob-Will) not only got the biggest ass whipping by Rip but in front of everyone!
2. glad Mr. Barbacoa is dead
3. the cartel have better hit squads than that - it was an amateur effort. No way Rip et al. survive a true cartel hit
4. Don't just hold the cattle prod - USE IT!! Someone like that comes to kill my family and he screams for hours before the first question.

tbh hell yeah this episode rocked. I'm locked back in.
I almost gave up after the last episode.... glad I didn't.
The Carter character disappoints and frustrates me more than any in this series.
Someone who's had so little -- and yet been given so much by Rip and Beth -- and he's still as clueless and unappreciative as a box of rocks.
How has he lived with them for the time he has and not gotten some discipline and discernment -- if simply by osmosis if nothing else.
I know it's just a TV show -- and that the unexpected and drama must be injected in proper proportion to keep the product from appearing/becoming too bland.
But the writers are doing his character no favors with the viewing audience. There's zero reason to care if he lives or dies -- other than the impact it would have on Beth and Rip.

I think you're giving Cartel hits too much credit. It's not like Seal Team 6 operations. Living at he border, most are just out in the open during broad daylight. I just think the cartel boss underestimated them.
How did they know where Carter was staying? Did the sheriff tell them?

Oreana's and Beulah's bodyguard was obviously linked to the Mexican cartel -- so he's a possibility as well.
This. Or another option is they knew Beth's phone and she called Carter 1500 times so they tracked him that way.

After her dad was killed Oreana may have turned and told them - she had just been there.
I hope to god they replace Oreana with someone that doesnt talk by clinching her teeth. She ruins every scene she is in for me. Same as her dad, but I guess we dont have to worry about that anymore.

They put horse trader Travis on a spinning horse. They spell out CARTER and when the horse stops, it pointed in the direction of his location. It's the Rio Laverga version of those paper fortune tellers.

I also cringe whenever she is speaking, definitely a butterface.
