Fair warning, this is a VERY dark romantic comedy.

But also an incredibly good one.

Personally, I loved it.

Granted, it won't be anywhere close to everyone's cup of tea, but if you like darkly comedic material - where the "laughs" (or, rather, awkward chuckles) come mostly from the cringiest, most anxiety-inducing moments, you'll probably be into it as much as I was.

To that end, the most notable aspect is the much buzzed-about twist. Though, it happens just half-an-hour in, thus becoming the movie's central premise, so "twist" might not be the proper word. It's just that it's been kept completely out of the marketing - though hinted at - but makes for something pretty unique. All I know is that I've never seen anything like it, it's very well done, and I'd go into it as spoiler-free as you can...

Caught this last night. Most of our group really enjoyed it. I thought Pattinson was great and really liked the twist. I also felt they stuck the landing. However, I doubt I could sit through another viewing cause sometimes it felt like watching an ITYSL sketch and I couldn't sink into my chair far enough, but well worth the price of admission.

We enjoyed it, other than the parts where Charlie is with kid Emma. When they had adult Emma holding the guns, it felt more in tune with the imagery Charlie was having otherwise, especially with the book that was on his desk.

Also feel like the maid of honor's behavior was super strange the whole time after the reveal.

Our audience was cracking up during that bit. It was sooo weird and awkward and borderline that all we could do was laugh nervously.

As for the maid of honor's behavior, it felt like performative victimhood to me. I thought that aspect was the most poignant, because it's so true to how so many on the left are now, re: cancel culture/purity test bull***** In other words, just having a complete lack of empathy so that one can feel superior, play the victim, etc (which is obviously something both sides do). I thought these two tweets summed it up nicely...

Right there with you. I doubt I ever watch it again, but I'm glad I did, especially with an audience.

This movie was almost unwatchable. Not good.

Saw it last night and loved it. An incredibly constructed movie - there are a lot of tightropes you have to walk:

For example, current day Emma has to be basically beyond reproach. If she displays any concerning traits, suddenly the movie is about "does she have some inescapable darkness," which was certainly not the point. But she can't be totally passive either, because they she's a doormat. I thought the reactions at the wedding when she grabbed his coworker were a good way to cut some of the sweetness in a fully deserved way.

I also thought the resolution and ending (assuming you believe it was real, which I choose to) were pretty artfully done. He was never going to be able to get over his intrusive thoughts on his own, but ultimately what happened was he was faced with the prospect of losing her due to his own actions. In that situation, he finally stopped stewing about the planned shooting and realized how much he still cared about her. Not a lot of other ways I can think of to accomplish that.

The side plot with the DJ was also really effective for me - a great microcosm of the broader plot.

Well said and right there with you.

It's been three days, I'm still thinking about the movie, and I just keep liking it more and more.

This tweet makes me wonder if this is some sort of generational or cultural disconnect.

I can't imagine being close to or associating with any of the people in the movie other than Emma. She was in a dark ****ed up place as a kid and still didn't actually do anything wrong. But all the other characters completely spin out and lose their **** over it.

The Haim girl being oblivious to her own bad actions in the past and present was one thing. But the immaturity and frankly stupid behavior of Charlie was what made me check my watch continuously for the last half of the movie.
