I am stoked for this one. Massive fan of indie style, low budget, found footage horror flicks. Plus the lore on this one is just so fascinating to me. Started as a single random image on 4chan and now we have a movie on it. I think it just tickles that part of our brains of endless fear/curiosity that is pretty much the calling card of humanity. I adore backrooms/SCP stories and can't wait to see where they go with this one and what is spawns online. A24 can be hit or miss for me but at the same time, if anyone is going to pull this off correctly, it'll likely be them.

I am ALL about that weird/unexplainable stuff we cannot understand or fight.

I'm very excited for this as well. The 20 year old kid Kane Parsons who's directing is fascinating to me. I've actually watched all of his videos on youtube creating his own spin on the lore and story of Backrooms. Very cool that he's been able to work this into a feature film.

Really excited for this and am interested to see if his youtube fanbase shows out to watch this in theatres. I am not sure of the age demographics of his subscribers but if this gets a younger audience to go to the theatres that would be great.

Dang, this premise looks interesting as hell.

Been a good month for "scary" movies. Passenger is underrated in my opinion, then Obsession and then Backrooms. Extremely good run of movies.

Okay, I did a little googling about this movie. Have to say there is a whole, huge world out there with which this 65 year old male is not close to being familiar. Creepypasta? Noclipping? Liminal spaces? LOL!

Where would y'all argue has the most backrooms/liminal space vibe in BCS? I feel like late night Blocker is in the running.

Does the Star-Tel building still exist? Super close to that Villa Maria/Briarcrest intersection. Google maps makes it seem like it's been torn down.

Random aside, in 2019 I was part of a team of people opening up a big ol' cubicle farm in a mostly abandoned building my company owned. Converted about half the space on one of the floors to the cubicle farm my team would inhabit. The other end of the building was basically the same except a giant conference room/performance space with a little stage, etc. Across the hall on our end, there were other random unused rooms on the other side of the building that a manager and I would use for meetings, etc. But there were also a couple of rooms not used for anything.

A couple of months into it, one of the knuckleheads on my team winds up in one of the unused rooms and they find a whole ass pallet of bedding/clothing next to a lamp, a phone charger and a clock radio on the floor. Some random bum had basically moved in. I kinda thought it was hilarious but the company freaked out, my team was feeling the heebie-jeebies and the company installed all new security measures and re-keyed everything, etc. Thats what this trailer reminded me of.

Was this all in the psych's head? Several of us thought it might be.

Probably one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen.

Suuuper unsettling, ominous, and surreal. So much atmospheric dread

The whole backrooms world just draws you in completely. To that end, the production design is absolutely incredible. I've never seen anything like it. The movie's worth watching for that element alone. Just to experience that world on a big screen is really, really unique and cool.

That said… it's a pretty unconventional script (and not in a good way), I thought the big villain reveal kind of sucked, I wasn't a huge fan of the ending, and there's no way I ever watch it again.

I saw someone compare an aspect of it to Lost, and *that's* the part I wish it focused on more. Because the main two characters just aren't all that compelling. They're not bad, but not great either.

All of that said, it's still worth seeing for sure, just don't expect a classic, or it to live up to the hype of the insane numbers it's currently doing at the box office. It's more of a concept in search of a plot. An incredibly interesting plot at times, just not one that fully delivers in the end, IMO.

I went to see Backrooms last night. I like that it didn't drag on too long and got to the point. I had to wait 4 hours and go to a late showing because every showing was sold out.

Considering taking my two boys (14 & 12) to this. They're excited about it. Did some non spoiler reading and for an R movie doesn't seem too insanely bad…

Curious to hear your thoughts

Got online to buy tickets this morning and this thing is crushing in the suburbs. Had to pick a theater 15 miles from home to get decent seats for an early afternoon showing.

Did you watch all of the backrooms videos on YouTube by Kane first? It's less than two hours of content iirc.
